I just put in a comp 400 and got my car up and running today. When over to the rents house and on the way back i noticed that the heat no longer is working. Why would this be? Any ideas please.

Tstat stuck open?
Low Coolant?
Diverter door in the heater box not open?

Air trapped in the head/cooling system. Since you had to remove the heater tubes at the very least to get the cam out/in you prolly got air trapped in there. Just loosen a heater hose and let the air out. You may have to remove the filler cap and add coolant to a funnel that seats in the filler opening and fill it and let the air gradually rise through the t'stat vent hole. This is with a cold not running engine. An air bleed in the head would have been a handy feature.

Take the rad cap off and run the engine until the thermostat opens... you will need to add coolant as the air burps out of the system.

There is supposed to be a little "valve" (for lack of better word right now) at the top of the tstat that will allow the air to escape... but if it was me I would still run the engine until the thermostat opens.

That may not work, as the cap is basically in the upper rad. hose. I don't know if I would run the engine with it totally off, if even loose. It may push out too much coolant. IDK have never attempted it.

I have never tried it myself on the Neon... but did on another vehicle I had with a very similar issue of air trapped in the system.

Left that rad cap off and watched the coolant level go down as the trapped air escaped when the tstat opened.... then topped it up with coolant with the engine still running.

Thanks for all the help. I found that problem. I Just put a new cam in the car and and new head gasket. When I got home from work today I looked under the hood and saw that there was coolant all over the trans. So somewhere there is a leak.

My 1st suggestion/question is: Were the headbolts all torqued down correctly and in the proper sequence? I'd start there since it's an "easy" fix. Then the 2nd suggestion: Check the CPS on the side of the head by the battery to make sure that's bolted in tight as well. You'd more than likely get an oil leak from there, but better safe than sorry... That's all I can think of off the top of my head, well, besides suggesting the head be removed and the headgasket inspected to see if it was correctly installed ; though honestly I'd say save that as the unltimate last step if my 1st 2 suggestions don't solve the problem.
