Squeeking Noise

Post by speedballer4life » Fri Nov 28, 2008 8:46 am

I have an 03 SXT ATX and when my car shifts at high rpm at WOT ( Most notably from 1st to 2nd) I get a squeeking noies. I can't tell it it's some kind of slight air leak or just the belt slipping a little.

ALSO whenever my car was cold I'd get a loud clicking noise above 3000 rpms. But once the car warmed up it was gone. A couple days ago I put a K&N filter in and haven't noticed it since.

Any ideas?

Don't rev your car over 3000 rpms when the engine is cold. *cringe* The clicking noise you're describing is the sound of the engine knocking or the valves. It happens on our cars when it's cold and it's bad to work the engine before it has properly warmed up.

Did you use the K&N as a drop in filter replacement? or did you get the K&N intake system?

If you got the cold air intake then there would be more noise from the engine bay during throttle since there is a loud sucking noise from the unrestricted air passing through the intake system. This would take attention away from the noise of the valves.

...and thank you for not abusing your neon :D

My ATX does that as well. at WOT gets about 6k rpms, shifts and squeeks.. i had my trans flushed and all it went away for abit then started back up. I'm thinking it's the torque converter? it's always done that with me and no one (dealer included) has said anything about it. so i dont know. I will bring it up in a few days when I call them again to see if it's anything to worry about.

Motor mounts? exhaust flexing at shift?

To me it almost sounds like it's the belt slipping a little bit. It doesn't seem like motor mounts or exhaust flex. I don't really take it as a bad noise or anything, just another noise haha
