Windshield Wiper Timing Off

Post by 2001 ACR » Thu Dec 11, 2008 9:57 am

My windshield wipers recently went crazy. They go down all the way but then pop-up another 2-4 inches. How do I fix this? I have OCD tendencies, and this is the last thing I need when driving to work...

the only thing i can think of is they might have come loose so they are re-positioning themselves on the wiper motor as it turns and then when it comes down the resistance is pushing them back up

when the wipers go down do they *THWAP* against the plastic at the bottom? (or *THUMP* if you prefer :P)

are you able to move the position of the wiper blades by hand, individually?

mine did, the nut on the thing had just come loose so it was able to move out of position on the motor

i'd say check that... if its not that, i dont know

When the wipers go down they pause momentarily and then go back up. I'll look for anything loose on the wipers later, once the weather clears up. Thanks for the help.

It may be the time delay or MFS switch going bad. I notice when I have them on delay they will sometimes jump slightly right before they go. Maybe this is happening when you "park" them, as in turn them off. I am not sure where the delay module is tho.

I do believe that the wiper control part of the MFS can be separated from the rest of the MFS.

I will have to take a look at this when i get home.

Thats interesting. The intermittent wipers on my GF 02 Focus do that as well. They don't pause at the bottom though. Its like the timing is slightly off. Eventual at highway speeds they'll come to rest about half way up the windshield.

I doubt they would both come loose at the same time. Besides if they were loose they would get out of sync with each other. One is longer, so it would have more drag than the other.

His description doesn't really match up with the diagnostic chart. They park in the correct position, then move. I could see it if they hit the cowl, then tried to correct. But since he hasn't verified yet, it's all speculation.
I hate those charts, they never even come close to shit that happens on my cars. I guess my cars don't read the manuals.
