some questions bout gauges

Post by 2003silverneonsxt » Wed Aug 31, 2005 11:33 am

ok i have a oil temp gauge and a voltmeter...

from what i know the voltmeter hooked to a ignition power..so that it only comes on when the ignition is on..

i am guessin i have to hook the oil temp gauge the same way or put them both on a switch to turn them on when i want them

only thing i am confused on..is where i should put the oil temp sender..my friend said to tap the oil pan..

but what do u guys suggest!

just hook them to an ignition wire. You will find a fuse to hook them to in the fuse box

Tapping the oil pan won't get you anything. You'll have to pull out the stock pressure switch on the back of the block (has a green plug), then you'll have to buy an 3/8" NPT to 1/8" NPT adapter from a hardware store to fit the new sender unit into the block since the holes are different sizes. Also... be sure to use yellow or anything teflon tape on the threads that is made to withstand petroleum aka oil. The typical white tape will break down over time giving you a leak.

Here is some more info... I've gotta run out for a bit

i just did my oil pressure gauge...yeah follow Diablo's instructions. i didnt make a T fitting though...so i get a code and the oil light when im driving. I heard making a T fitting for both units isnt good because it could break off....Have fun with that sending unit...there is no room to work behind the block...find a small child with small hands to help you out :)
