Inspection is comming up soon and i cant get rid of this code on my car...the code is p0073, which im told is ambient air temp. Ive looked around on the car, and cant see anything the matter with it. Even tried reseting the ECU. Ideas?

There should be a sensor in the elbow going into the air filter box. That sensor is prolly bad. They are about $7, so it is a cheap fix.

Either that, or NAPA (obviously).

Just go to the dealer with the part number. They can most likely have it for you next day at the latest.

Yep dealer pwn's all on this one. I think AutoZone wanted $30ish for it. Hence why I used NAPA for the illustration.

i think the ambient air temp sensor is the one behind the front bumper just sitting by the bottom of the radiator

It can be in either or both places.

So today i bought the sensor and plugs into the air intake, and there is no change. The check engine light still remains

Intake air temperature and ambient air temperature are two different things. One refers to air IN THE INTAKE, while the other refers to the air OUTSIDE.
Remove the ambient air temp sensor (lower left of the radiator) and check it's resistance w/ a DMM. Should be between 9K - 11k ohms. If not, replace it. This sensor is for the compass/display on the rearview mirror that shows temperature and direction. Not sure if all cars came with the sensor, but I know my car doesn't have the compass display.
Oh and BTW, when you do fix the issue, it might take several trips for the CEL to reset. I recommend disconnecting the battery for 1/2 hr instead of waiting for the PCM to clear the code.

Exactly. And I beleive both locations use the same sensor. Do the battery thing and let us know. Earlier (as in my '01) only use the one in the air filter inlet for both ambient and intake temp. The ambient part is more for alternator charging rate tho. If you leave it unplugged, you will get a battery light in the cluster.

My car doesnt have a compass, nor does it have tempature on the rearview. Would my car still have this sensor, if so would it be in the same place?

I believe they all came with it compass display or not. Well all NGC cars at the very least. The compass is an NGC controlled feature. I'm 95% sure my car has the sensor, but I haven't had time to look. I'll post back up when I find out.
