Couple Things...

Post by flhmfd » Wed Feb 18, 2009 4:56 pm

first of all....my car is having cooling issues...my reservoir bottle is cracked...and it sometimes overheats. i was sitting in it last night and i heard a small pop and then coolant started spewing out of it. any ideas?

second...i was changing my plugs and i noticed that the silver tubes were sticking up a little bit on 3 cylinders..... now the spark plugs in these cylinders were COVERED in oil... dripping. the other cylinder was fine...no oil...

im gonna order the valve cover gasket and the spark plug seal kit.

should this fix my problem? the car actually runs fine suprisingly.

Do you know where the coolant was comming from? Or did it just make the noise, and coolant started running on the ground?

If the latter, my guess is a hose burst.

Yes. You will run low on coolant to a point. The pressure in the system forces the coolant into the overflow, or expansion tank. when the engine cools, it pulls the excess coolant back into the system. Since yours is draining onto the ground, it is pulling air back into the system, prolly getting air pockets in the head, causing hot spots/boil over. I would replace the expansion tank. Or use a 1 liter soda bottle secured somewhere that you can run the tube to the bottom, for a test to see if it solves the overheat problem. Just fill it when the engine is cold, let warm up/let cool, and check the level. It should drop. just keep an eye on the level, not letting it get too low. If it works, then spend for a new tank.
