The UAW is the downfall of the american car industry. Unless Fiat can do something about the unions, they're going to be in chapter 11 in no time.Midnight_Rider wrote:If American workers lose jobs due to captive imports, that is a problem, at least for me. 1. UAW members are not "unskilled laborers." While I haven't been a UAW member (my sister was when she worked at KTP and my late father was before being in management at Chrysler), I have been in the Sheetmetal Worker's Union and the Teamsters and I know personally that you just can't walk in off the street and do these jobs. "Unskilled"? Nope.PhillyLS1 wrote:The UAW is the downfall of the american car industry. You can't have unskilled laborers making 50-60-70K a year, offer them benefits, a pension, have all the call out issues, meet union rediculous demands etc etc and then be expected to turn a profit. It's just not happening.
Even in Europe, specifically the UK they're had to cut worker's earns. You can't do that in the US.
You're clouding the issue. I used to have a Union job. While it is true SOME go through an apprentice program, most do not. It doesn't take skill to operate a lugnut gun or screw simple parts on. Electricians, Sprinkler fitters etc is a different issue all together. This isn't the 1920's. Labor has been federally regulated for years. There is no reason to even have a union anymore other then to strong arm a corporation. The Unions do nothing but abuse the system they created and they're now reaping what they've sowed.Midnight_Rider wrote:1. UAW members are not "unskilled laborers." 2. UAW and CAW members have had benefits cut many times over the last few years so I fail to see how this differs from the situation in the UK and the rest of Eurpoe that you describe.
How about we get this thread back to the original topic?

Probably because they went to college and have degrees. They usually have education. But that's not even the point.opie0669 wrote: (Europe is all union... thus the term socialism) why is it ok for these monkey minded execs to make hundreds of millions a year making bad decsions, and bad for blue collars to just "get by".
x2. Some redesigned headlights, bumpers and skirts and I would be very interested. Maybe an AWD version since that seems to be the trend. I think an AWD 240hp neon would be fun as anything.Haganracing wrote:Dodge should bring back the neon, run them all with 2.4L n/a engines with an srt-4 model with the turbo
x2 i'm totally down for bring back the DART!! a buddy of mine had one in high school with the slant six in would have been a nice car if had the cash to fix it up unfortunatly he had to sell it but i heard the old guy that bought it mad it REAL nice but yeah a 2.4 all wheel drive dart with a turbo option would be BAD ASS !!!! .... I agree. Unfortunately, if they do bring it back, they'll probably put the 1.8 148hp I4 from the caliber in it. Hmmm... That's more power than I have... I wonder if i could do a caliber swap!Haganracing wrote:Dodge should bring back the neon, run them all with 2.4L n/a engines with an srt-4 model with the turbo

True that. Consumer reports, etc. pretty much killed it's sales, and DCX's lack of advertising/failure to point out/defend that the 2gn is not the same car as the 1gn. Heck, even a quote in AllPar falsely berates the fuel economy.Ntyvirus1 wrote:sadly the amount of enthusiasts is outweighed 100 to 1 by people who already have a negative image of the "neon" name.

The only way to change ppl's opinion is to make them drive one. (MTX of course) IDK if I would have been nearly as enthused with an ATX.
I was one of the haters, until looming $1.90 gas prices forced me to give up using the XJ for a DD.

Agreed; however, I won't be one of those first out of the gate to purchase one of the new products that comes out of the new company of Fiat/Chrysler.Donkeypuncher wrote:I'm not really sure what all the fuss is about fiat and chrysler. Fiat is still in business for a reason, so I think they can help structure a new business plan for chrysler. There will always be another company willing to buy the chrysler name, but who really knows what's gonna happen.
