Otherwise known as prey. The SRT-4, as it demanded to be called, became a bully that routinely beat up on other small cars more refined and mature than it.

But most of chrysler/dodge/plymouths best engines were made in Mexico. Have you seen the casting differences in a 2.2 from america to one built in mexico? I get your point of keeping jobs in america but if it means i can have more badass engines from chrysler i'm all about them being made in mexico.Midnight_Rider wrote:^^Nice. But it will still be built in Mexico so no-go for me.

damn you Daimler http://www.allpar.com/neon/stroke.htmlragek23 wrote:still think the shoulda tried their 2 cycle engine concept. probably much more efficient.

That's cold comfort to the now jobless employees of the recently demolished Chrysler Indianapolis Foundry. The Mexican-made 2.4L in the SRT-4 was the main reason I didn't buy one until the end of production (I was really hoping that a US-made equivalent would eventually be available). With the exception of the SRT and the used Plymouth Cricket I had in high school (BIG mistake!), all of my Chryslers have had American-made engines which were reliable, quick and fuel efficient.smallblockfreak wrote:I get your point of keeping jobs in america but if it means i can have more badass engines from chrysler i'm all about them being made in mexico.

I do not know why Chrysler got rid of the neon for that UGLY crossover (Caliber). I never used to like neons, until I bought my 2002 back in 06. It has been a truly wonderful car, both to own and to drive. I liked the 2000-2002 body style the best though, although the SRT-4 looks great as well.
I was also a big fan of the Shadow/Sundance of the early 90's as well. My mom had a 1990 Sundance that we had 125,000 miles on when my brother got it in an accident. She had one of the apparently kinda rare 2.5l engines in hers, and even with the crappy 3spd auto that car moved! I had a POS 1991 Sundance 2door 5spd for a few months, too. Besides oil pan leak (rusted out) and power steering line rupture, it was reliable.
I would like to see dodge come out with a small car, something in line with the shadow/neon size, and instead of offering a turbo 4, bring back the 3.0 V6 to the compact cars. Anyone that knew somone or owned one of the old Shadow ES or Dusters of the early 90's knows they had some serious balls, yet didnt need premium fuel. Oh, and only offer 5(or 6) speed manual. Autos suck :-p

The 3.0 in the Sundance Duster/Shadow ES was far from having serious balls. I have owned both the 5 speed and the 41te version. Both are equal in performance, and the ATX actually got 1 mpg better fuel mileage. I really don't know what they screwed up with the 40/41te in the neons, unless the T350 takes much less power to spin than the 5 speed in the P bodies. If they had optioned the 3.0 like the Stealths were endowed, then you might have a leg to stand on.woodchuckssuck wrote:.

Eh, still the caliber looks odd. Front end looks fine, its the rest of the car...
The new Avenger does look nice. Too bad its way out of my price range, with the V6 at least.
I will likely never buy another mopar car though, Nothing really jumps out at me, and I cant afford the Challenger!

I would rock a Caliber... if only for the increased cargo and higher driving position.
