Help with Brake Lights?

Post by Jwood1712 » Sun May 17, 2009 4:55 pm

So last week I find 2 of my tires have enormous bubbles in them, so i bring the car to Firestone (outrageous price, but I had to go on a business trip that night and they were the only store still open after 7). Not only do they replace my tires but also tell me that my back wheel is about to fall off due to a busted wheel bearing. I already knew something was wrong from the horrible noise. Anyway I took it to my mechanic for a fix. They changed the bearing and had to resurface the brake drum too and meanwhile they changed my pads. So the next day, I'm driving around and get pulled over...no brake lights. Tails work fine, brake lights do nothing. No ticket, but I have to resolve the problem before I get pulled over again or worse, rear-ended. I checked the bulbs and triple checked the fuses. Any ideas before I have to take it back to the mechanic? They lit up fine before I had work done btw.

Grazie!

Does the 3rd brake light work?

Changing the wheel bearings or brake pads/drums will not affect the lights.

Check your brake light switch under the dash. Its a white box looking switch attached to the pedal assembly.

I just wasn't sure if maybe they pulled a fuse or disconnected something I don't do brakes myself...Anyway I'll check out that box..but is there anything in particular I should be looking for?

If not.......bring it back to the mechanic and ask if they went near any wires at all......
