My 2001 LE came with the under hood pad but no trunk carpet... go figure.

I lied, when I looked again, I realized it does have one. I must have been thinking of my daughter's Geo Prizm. :tardbang:

Wait, nooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Don't remove it!

The pad is there to prevent hood dents in situations such as yours.

Besides, your hood paint will start peeling if you remove that pad.

i fixed the problem with the motor mount, so its never coming loose again. as for the paint, oh well if it does overtime i'll just repaint it. I've already redone the bumpers, they look new again. the blanket just looks like hell anymore if i open the hood at shows, so i dont care enough to keep it.

Considering the FSM calls it a silencer pad, that's about all Diamler was going to claim liabilty for. W/E other qualities it may hold, they wouldn't have backed in a court of law.

Is there a pad lining the inside right rear quarter panel? if so mine must have fallen off cause my paint is all effed up on that corner!

Where can I find a new pad for the right rear corner panel?

It didn't sell because DC didn't want to put forth the effort and money to keep up with the competition.

True story. My first Neon was an 05. The quality of my 02 is much much higher. Especially when it comes to interior.

Yep, DCX hated the car and cheapened it year after year to the point that it was starting to be little more than a tin can/rental fleet unit. Had the bean counters not taken over and improvements made each model year, the Neon, IMO, would have survived to make it to a 3GN. [/:ranting: at DCX]

Back on-topic, I think that the silencer pad is just that, a silencer pad. Since SRT's give off much more heat, I doubt that there is a need for one in a 2.0 to protect the paint on the hood from possible heat damage.

The only issues with not having a heat blanket are with aftermarket CF SRT hoods from what I've seen. Where the air vents are above the turbo the CF is exposed underneath and has no fiberglass covering like the rest of the hood. This causes the CF fibers to "lift" through the gelcoat, paint or anything of the like that you put over it, all in due time. There were a few threads on SRTforums of people using heat blankets to try to prevent it but those are the only hoods I've ever seen an issue with (and I owned one that did it).

It has a purpose, otherwise it wouldn't be there, keeping heat in during the winter is one of it's benefits as Chuck said. I'm leaving mine on the SXT, it doesn't bother me much to have it there.

I removed my under hood heat/fire suppression blanket today and donated it to a needy Lamborghini
