Big Problem

Post by 04_yelneon » Mon Aug 03, 2009 11:49 pm

I was having problems a couple months ago. I had a topic on it, but I would like to update it. My original ECM had some type of power surge to the ignition. It for some reason popped my ignition coil. I took into my dealership I work at an the tec said you need a new ECM. This one is done. So I went an got another used ECM and had It flashed at dodge. Once I picked it up, it ran great. A few days go by and the red theft alarm light on the top right hand corner of the cluster flashes several times when the car shifts around 3000rpms. It did this for a day or 2. I parked it, locked it with the keyless entry, came back out and went to unlock it and when I hit the button the alarm went off and I cant start the car at all. It just continues to go off. I was told to have the ECM reprogrammed or the used one was faulty too. I then bought a new ECM programmed to the vin, I installed it today, and its still doing the same thing. So I know its not the actuall ECM. Im thinking its the theft alarm system shutting me out. And obviuosly since the alarms going off my key wont start it. What should I do next? I know the owners manual has directions on how to reset the alarm system. Could it even be my keyless entry remote going dead... Any suggestions please...

Do you have a 2nd / spare Ignition key ???

If you do, you may want to try it out, and see if the same thing happens
( I am wondering if your sentry key is going bad, or if that would even cause this problem)

No I only have the 1 key when I bought the car. Someone did mention that the key could be going bad. But that would just be a starting issue. Im not sure if that would set off the alarm.

+1

Try that out. I think that could be your problem.

When you change the ECM, it's recommended that you get new keys to go with it (for Sentry equipped vehicles). Your dealer should have mentioned this...
You can get new keys from other sources - my local hardware store sells them for $40 cut.
