Anything I'm able to test run before install, I have learned to do. It just takes one, time as you now know to piss you off; after going through the trouble of installing, only to have it not work.
Granted, there are a lot of things that just can't be checked first, but a set of jumper cables, and a jumper with alligator clips would have saved you a bunch of grief.
I bet you test the next starter before you slap it on.
Chalk it up as one more lesson learned!
I have even been a prick, and made parts stores bench test alternators before I,ve walked out the door. The way I see it they are getting paid to test it. I am not. For me to test an alternator takes much more time/effort.
When they use the "It's got a warranty" line I ask if they are going to remove and install it for me, and they then usually gladly test it for me.
