What would be your first mod if you had a bone stock 2gn and it WAS up to factory specs. These being your only options. Rims, an I/H/E, or strut/spring(not coilovers). And why would you choose that mod?

Depends on what your try to achieve. Are you going for more show, or more go. If it's more show either the rims or the drop. If it's more go then the I/H/E.
I know that didn't help much, but you gotta decide which direction you wanna go with the car.

I vote for RIDE
I go more for comfort, and then would deal with looks (rims). A few years ago I would have chosen the rims first, but things have changed since then.
04 Neon, purchased 10/06, 85000 miles, $7300. Slowly making Mods.
I'd do struts/springs, first. Then, after you're dropped, look into wheels.
OR, after struts and springs are done for handling purposes, put some go under the hood with I/H/E.
Then, after you have the power to back up the pending looks, put some tasteful wheels/tires on it.
That would be/has been my course of action since day 1...

Damn, us old guys must think alike, because that is basically how I have done my mods. Of course I'll always take more power, when I can sneak it by my budget.Maddog wrote: OR, after struts and springs are done for handling purposes, put some go under the hood with I/H/E.

But we all know we are never really finished. There is always something new we will "need" eventually.

Airbox lid off made my car run first, just to say lol.
I did intake and exhaust first on my car, because I didn't think I'd want or need it lowered. Plus my driveway is a bit rough and didn't think I would make it up.
But since lowering my car it's the first thing I will do to every car I own afterwards, suspension.
It's the best money to put into the car, because even if you put 400 dollars worth of horsepower stuff into these things you really don't notice much..

Neons don't gain much from IHE, because the factory stuff is already pretty good. The suspension, however, leaves quite a bit to be desired.
Personally, I would be putting that cash into 12.5:1 piston/rod combo, and run e85 through it all the time. But that's just me. Most people don't like to be limited as far as which stations they can fill up at.

I vote for stock aluminum wheels with high quality tires, Coilovers, removed resonator, K&N drop in filter, and do something about the muffler. (fart can maybe??)

He should get the ones from the 89-92 Imperial - less than 12.5 pounds per wheel (14"), and I *think* they are 14x6, since it was intended for a larger car.occasional demons wrote:Fixed.excon wrote:I like my car loud. Screw anyone riding in it.

(fart can maybe??)The oem aluminum wheels are 6" width vs 5.5" for the steelies. (14") .5" may not be much, but it does help with steering response. And if you can get them used for cheap, then it is a decent upgrade. IIRC all aluminum oem wheels are wider than the steelies. If weight is a concern, then you just have to be more careful about which ones you choose.

I went for power first, but then my car was already dropped on springs. So then I blew my struts... then replaced them... and blew them again... so now I have coilovers finally! Personally I wish I done that first, the handling is f@#$en unreal!! And I am still rolling on stock aluminum wheels, I kind of like them actually.
