SRT won't start.

Post by Passt » Wed Nov 04, 2009 9:06 am

Went to start her this morning (first time in 2 weeks) and it wouldn't crank. It also wasn't clicking like it normally does if the battery is low. It was just making a weird noise. The ODO read "FUSE", but only when I turned the key to start it. Anyone else had this problem before? I'm assuming it's simply because it's been sitting in a cold garage and hasn't been driven in a while.

Edit: Upon searching I found this thread:
viewtopic.php?t=39191&highlight=odometer+fuse+starting

The battery is new as of this year. I don't know why it would be dead, but I suppose it's possible. GRRR.

Have you tried jump starting it?

It happened to me when i put my car in storage for the winter, turned out the trunk was slightly poped and the light had been on for a month draining the battery. FUSE came up on the odometer, jumping didnt work so i bought a new battery and its been fine since then

No I haven't tried jumping her yet. I just found the problem this morning. I have a 2nd car just no cables ;;. I left them in my Camaro when I sold it.

I agree with everyone else. Get a portable charger.

Having a car sit for a while and not driven that much lowers the lifespan of the battery.

If needed take battery to autoparts store and have them check it and see how well it holds a charge.

I went out today to check the voltage gauge, and when I opened the door, the overhead light didn't even come on. Turned the key, nothing in the car came on at all. Even if it were the battery, would it die that fast? The car only sat for two weeks MAX.

Just take your battery out, go to your local auto store and have them test it.

How old is the battery and what brand?

Hahahahaha that's what I shall do then. I guess for now I'll let it sit since I don't plan on driving it? Or should I keep it charged?

Remove it and charge it. Sitting dead for an extended period of time will kill it, if it is not already done.

A $25.00 battery maintainer should be put on it, while parked. This will keep the parasitic items like radio memory, PCM, etc. from draining it. Two weeks shouldn't have killed tho. Maybe two months, but even then...

Yea, I'm wondering what drained it so quickly. I'll charge the battery, and investigate.

You have the same problem I do. Get a battery tender and you should have no more further problems

Sears, Wal Mart...

IDK if there are any that are any better than others, unless you spend for one that is specifically suited for deep cycle/AGM type batteries. But those are usually chargers, not battery tenders.

There are also devices that automatically disconnect the battery if the voltage falls below a certain voltage.

no Nate I have this problem on my sxt it pulls this crap. My uncle and I checked it out and replaced the starter cam position sensor alternator every fuse we could find and sanded down all grounds and it still pulls it and the battery is just fine. but it still reads fuse every now and then. I starting to think its just cause its a neon.
