Defrost question??

Is it just me or do the neons/ SRT4's leave more to be desired for defrost in the winter time. I find myself always foggy even with just me in the car.... Potential problem or is this a natural element of our car??

If you use the defroster it works just fine.

It seems the windows fog up more than I'm used to in other cars, but there's a lot of factors that could be at play there.

For example, when the defroster is not on, do you have the heater set to recirculate the air inside the cabin or draw from outside? If it's wet and drawing wet air from the outside... you'll have moisture.

Are your shoes/pants caked in snow when you get inside? Melting snow will cause moisture build up (fog) on your windows.

Did someone pee in your back seat? That will cause it.

Yeah mine fogs up quickly as well. Defrost always seems to work great, but only if it is kept on. As soon as it is off, the fog returns quick.

With just me in the car its not always bad. With more people tho, I feel that its def below average. Other cars I ride in far surpass it. I always make sure to kick off snow of my shoes before getting in my cars. I usually just use the outside air because the recirculation only allows for half defrost half lower body. (u know what i mean). Guess I gotta live with it. and I agree OB, Its always gotta be kept on. SMH (*shaking my head*).... I decided to take the SRT4 out the other day I was like eww kinda. Going back in the garage prob tomorrow. ACR it is!! :)

These other cars you speak of... what kind of price range are they in?

Mine seems to work fine, i normally dont have more than 2 people in the car tho. My dad has an SRX and that sucker has a nice defroster. the vent covers the whole window top to bottom. but obviously well out of any neons price range

We have to consider the fact that these cars aren't the best insulated from the factory either. All that wind noise? Yeah that's space for moisture to enter the cabin.

your outside vents are probably covered in snow or ice... thats about the only time my windows get foggy.

OB, I'd think that your car might be a little noisier inside due to wind than most of ours .

My defroster/defogger has always worked fine. I did the automatic A/C delete for the defogger setting, so I just set the control to air conditioning when I need it. Generally, New England winter air is so dry that it defogs the windows without using the A/C anyway.

 Very true. Then again, no Neon I've ever been in is even close to quiet wind-wise.

Does the A/C work?

How are the vents in the rear sides of the trunk?

Leaky door gaskets will actually help, as it give the air from the blower a place to escape. I have found that cracking the window helps keep the fog down since the moisture is getting blown out the window, instead of remaining in the car. In a solid down pour, this is not an option tho.

If no one is in the rear seat, try leaving one a little forward, so the moist air can get out the trunk vents easier. A duct could be fabbed to let air into the trunk area easier, but that may take some creativity to make it "invisible."

Most older cars had the vents in the door jambs, so the path was a bit shorter for air displacement.

one reason I got the ventshades, so I could leave a window cracked while driving and not get covered in crap. just get the ones that tuck up inside the weatherstrip, stick on ones look so cheap.

Clean your windows and look if the carpet is wet under the floormats = the 2 major reasons for foggy windows.
