So more fail? 71k is less than half of what plenty of people are runnin' on.

I thought I read 169,xxx miles a page or two back. If not, I'm at 167,xxx right MEOW. Post up if you beat me.

Technically high mileage should be considered more along the lines of how many miles you put on in a year. If you have a ten year old car with 120k-150k on it then it's rather normal. But a younger car with the same amount of miles on its odometer is high mileage to me. I put 24k+ on a year since I've bought my car....that's racking up mileage but it's not near 150k yet. Thank god.

Yeah fail...it happens.

What is average mileage going for on stock clutches anyway, before they are toast?

Posted: Mon Feb 22, 2010 4:58 pm
by FAC3L3SS
I was on stock clutch @ 118k. It just started to slip before I swapped it. Also, why are you asking? If you're clutch is going, replace it.

LSP, technically you're right. M_K asked for the highest miles on their Neon, not who puts the most. He's looking for total.

Truth. If it slips....swap it out. Clutches depend on how you drive. You could blow one in 12k (like the PO on my SXT did) or blow one at 120k.

There's an 03 SY SRT-4 that has over 250k on it somewhere, that was as of last year. I think he takes the cake for SRTs LOL

Yup. I swapped mine as soon as 2nd gear went. Easiest way.

Not many SRTs have over 100k from what I've seen. Most owners that are active with theirs get rid of them before then, or sell/total it. A few have hit it. There is another yellow one with 130k too. It's all about maintanence. Neons have been running for several hundred thousand miles. An SRT over 250k is WIN though.

I have 124k and my engine is spotless....you're 100% right about the maintenance. A car runs as well as you treat it. The 250k SRT is on it's third stock turbo and the same engine from what I recall. I'll have to see if I can find it later.

Yup. I wish I could hang with these OG high mileage folks, but before I hit 180k I'll be dropping a new head in. Just an OEM head, but mine is shot anyway.

Yup, maintanence. I've done very LITTLE and mine runs completely normal.

I'll add to the fail.

Slutface just hit 76k a few days ago, and over the course of the last month the clutch has been saying it's last goodbyes.

I bought my '05 SXT last March. She (Grace) had 75k on the clock. A year later, she's sitting on 86,677.

my 01 has 209k and about a month ago the tranny went out, still in the process of fixing it, so planning to rack up that number :-D

I had 202k on my 99, but I don't think it counts. GunMetalNeon now has the car though, so he may have it over 209k now.

Guys, I fail. My calculations were a tad off, and I'm at ~156k. Still plenty moar than these below 50k cats that are in here for some reason....but not the highest.

Currently my car is sitting at 15k/year.

Back when I started my current job it was at a shade over 20k/year.

paint the whole under body of the car with a rhino stuff that will prevent from rusting and such, and keep waxing the car once in a while

It can also hide rust, letting it spread like cancer. A yearly cleanup/repaint of the underside is a little more effective.

The Rhino/Herculiner thing is great for brand new cars tho. The lower rockers, wheel openings especially.

Gutting the interior, and spraying Cosmoline inside the body panels helps also.
