Does anyone know what this is?

So i got a CEL today, i checked the code and it says its a small evap leak. I checked all the hoses and when i got to one behind the battery, the line snapped in my hand. Does anyone know what this is?
BTW i cleared the light after i tightened the gas cap and it stayed off so IDK.

I'll
almost bet your vacuum controlled HVAC stuff doesn't work anymore. The cylinder looking thing is a check valve. The line to it supplies the vacuum motors, etc. for HVAC/misc.
