alright this is what i was wondering. this actually helps... i knew what it standed for but as i stated in my question post there are alot of conflicts of ideas on whether or not the NGC actually helps or hinders. i am going to have to replace it later on this summer anyway when i do a tranny swap into a stick

With my 2002 and a 90 mile round trip commute to CTC for work every day I was getting 38-39 mpg doing 60-65 mph without cruise control. I don't know how significant the ngc could improve upon that.

Why do you have to replace the NGC system for a transmission swap?

He won't be replacing "NGC", just ATX to MTX pcm's.

Can't the pcm just be flashed to MTX firmware? I'm not up to date with the NGC tranny swaps. Or maybe that was the skim problem where you had to flash it. I'm kind of a

sometimes.

This was asked, or someone was going to attempt it a while ago, but AFAIK, there was no follow up. If it could be done for $100ish, it would be the way to go, original PCM is retained, and there is no searching.
What I am not sure about is the VSS signal. The pulses per mile may be different between the two, and that might not be able to be changed by a re flash. The 41te uses the parking sprag notches for the signal, vs the hall effect? sensor that the MTX uses. I would almost bet the ATX signal has more pulses per revolution. It is basically comparing say a 7" diameter tone wheel to a 1" tone wheel. I'm not sure they could pack as many "notches" into the lesser area. Just a S.W.A.G. tho.
I was only able to find the pulses per mile for the 41te: 8000 PPM (IIRC).

In that case it may just be better to find a used ecu for cheap. Plus I remember reading about some members having a hard time finding a dealer that has smart enough techs to actually perform the flash.
