also i was told another reason that i own a neon when i was at Carlisle one year. it's something along the lines of why guys with huge, jacked trucks are compensating for something :P
Yes EJ, all of us that were there that year know about your extra large penis, as well as the fact that you are loud during coitus.
hey now, i never said anything about that. why do you gotta go pointing fingers at people?

I went shopping for a new (to me car) back in 1996 and the dealer steered me away from gently used cars to a brand new 95 neon...but when I looked inside and saw an empty slot where the stereo was suppose to be, i walked away laughing (I ended up in a 93 or 94 Grand Am 4cyl automatic).

Years later and several vehicles that were more "needs" than "wants" and I was back in another Grand Am (V6 auto this time) which was still a compromise between want and need. Well it got totalled by some guy running a 4 way a few weeks after Hurricane Katrina (apparently not everybody knows that a down street light = 4 way stop).

I wanted to be FAST and FURIOUS so I was looking at civics, but the price of a used civic on the gulf coast after Katrina was rediculous. I looked at a few other cars that were either too expensive or didn't do it for me. I test drove a Pt Cruiser and it was okay and I thought about settling when I noticed an 03 SXT with manual trans and in pretty good shape. I did a little research online and the test drive sealed it for me. I have been slowly building it since....which leads me to my current dilema:

I want to take the car to the next level but cant have it down for too long as it is my DD, so I am looking at another car for DD and making the Neon my project car/baby. So I am looking for a fun car that I can fit the family in (needs to be at least as big as the neon, preferrably a little bigger...got 3 quickly growing kids). It HAS to be manual trans and I would prefer RWD or AWD (cuz FWD is suppose to suck, right?)

So I have pretty much narrowed it down to a used 3 series or a WRX. WRX seems to have less rear seat room than neon but has ton of aftermarket. Test drove an 05 and it was fun but wasn't all I expected/hoped for...plus they hold their value so well and good luck finding a non trashed version.

So the ultimate drving machine HAS to be the answer, right? It works on paper and there are tons of E46 in my price range (trying to stay under $16K). So I am looking around and find a low mileage 2004 325i sedan with manual trans right up the street for $14,500. I went to look at it and took it for a brief test drive. It took forever just to figure out what all the buttons were for. It was snowing and the roads were pretty shitty so I didn't get a chance to put it through it's paces, but initial impression is that it is SOLID and overbuilt! I felt totally isolated from the road. I was cruising down the interstate at 70mph in 3rd gear (cuz I couldn't hear the engine/exhaust even with the radio off). The shifter is smooth but the rows are LONG (I have a STS in the neon). I was left dissappointed but still had an open mind that with better roads and more familiarity it would work...then I got back in the NEON to drive home and it just put a smile across my face as I ripped out of the parking lot, sliding the ass end around. I could tell exactly what the car was doing and it was A LOT more fun than the "ulitimate drivig machine".

I still want to find an 01-04 330i sedan with sports package and manual trans to test drive on not so shitty roads. I think the wife and kids would appreciate something a little more refined. But I am not looking forward to the "BMW tax" (cost of parts and maint) but I am looking forward to having something a little nicer...and something that I can drive while I have engine/trans work done on the neon. Plus then I dont have to worry about the family bitching about my suspension or exhaust or anything else in the neon that I love so dearly....

Maybe I should just get another neon...maybe an srt4?
