Water Ingress 2002 Neon
Water Ingress 2002 Neon
My 2002 Neon has an ongoing problem with water ingress. Rainwater enters the airbox behind the dash when the car is parked facing up my gently sloped driveway.Only on moving the car does the water enter the cabin via the blower recess, dripping on to the carpet. This does not happen if the car is parked on the flat. My local Chrysler Garage cannot locate the source of entry into the airbox, and are suggesting this is a design fault. Does anyone out there have this problem or know how to fix it ? Please help, i'm getting desperate !!

On the passenger side I can only count a few places where the water could be able to get in. On the back of the firewall there is a pass though for the A/C lines and a little hose where condenced water can leave the cabit from having the A/C on.
There is one place that people are noticing it and you can try and take a look at next time you notice it. Take a look under your cowl and see if there is a substantial puddle there. Under that area is where air enters the airbox from the outside. Since you are parking on a grade facing upward that is a perfect area for the water to puddle up if it can't drain anywhere... once it fills up it just dumps right into the airbox in the dash.
So I'd check that next time, and if it's doing it you could probably drill a little hole in that area to let the water drain out into the engine bay before it puddles up that high.

ive heard of this before, last guy that had an issue with water sinking in found that it was an inperfection with the pinch welds on the firewall where the vent is under the wipers. its was just a lil peice that was folded and welded wrong. a quick fix with some silicone and no more water. take off the passanger side vents under the wiper and have a friend water down the area while you look inside the cabin to trace the leak. thats how the guy found his.
