OEM parts for the Neon will eventually dry up from dealers, PDC and suppliers. Prices for certain SRT parts are through the roof and things like the intake manifold are gone. I'm looking to start a thread where we all mention parts of our cars that needed to be be replaced or wore out. Example: my end links always disappear on my SXT, my tophats are noisy and wore out quicker than planned, the front hubs have been replaced once and are due for another replacing, my cam sensor went out twice now ect... Maybe even mention things like how the steering wheel and shift knob have worn down or certain bolts always break. In five years it might be nice to have a new steering wheels to drive with.

We could arrange this from exterior: cosmetic (fender) or mechanical(brake lines), interior: cosmetic (dash pad) or mechanical (MFS), and the engine (cam/crank sensor) plus accessories (waterpump) and a miscellaneous category for gaskets, bolts, relays etc.

Part numbers can be added once they are confirmed to be accurate.

how soon are you thinking on this? they will be making oem parts for atleast another 10 years. not to mention the junkyard cars.

Some of that stuff is only a problem back East where all of the salt is.

Although I am no longer a Neon owner I have a list of parts from memory on my 2001 that needed to be replaced.

I have to say that I had no problem obtaining any of them through the dealer. Some had to be ordered and generally arrived the next day.

The most difficulty I had was obtaining the hydraulic tensioner. A couple of local dealers simply said it was on back order and wanted nothing to do with sourcing it from another dealer. Then came a helpful parts guy at one dealership who was willing to source one and found a dealership down south with 30 of them in stock. I had the part in 3-days.

Unfortunately, this is just what happens to the older cars... eventually their numbers dwindle and there is no longer the interest or market for parts.

I agree, most parts aren't going to be an issue for a long time. Yes, the car was dropped in '05 but there are so many of these cars on the road that the demand for parts will be here for a long time.

It is also a problem on the west coast. All the cities that border the Pacific all have the same salt problem. They get the salt spray from the ocean and then it is carried by the winds inland. And this is coming from living in WA State for most of my life.

It's not like it gets blown in across the state. I did get surface rust on my new calipers when I went to the bay and stayed about 100 yards away from the ocean right after I put them on. Unless you are pretty much "right on" the coast, it isn't a problem like it is back East anywhere there is road salt in the winter.
