print off a thing saying what an srt-4 is and point out EVERYTHING that's different. then maybe they'll believe you

Tell them to take the VIN to a dealer, if they're wrong, then they sell you the car for $4000. If they're right, you'll pay them the asking price. :D

If they got suckered into paying trade for an SRT, they are truly stupid.

I think they are just trying to bone someone. If they are adamant about it, threaten to take them for false advertising. What they are doing, I'm sure is illegal. You could also threaten reporting them to the BBB, or the State. I'm sure they could get their dealer's license pulled for trying to blatantly falsify info. Especially when thir online ad specifically says:
2005 DODGE NEON SXT
Then they try to change the facts when trying to buy?

I'm wondering if taking this that far is even worth it for an SRT-D... but boy, it would be fun

This weekend is our anniversary (we're going camping), so we're pretty booked for this week... gotta pack up tonight as we're leaving tomorrow after work. If the Neon is still there next week, we are definitely going to pay a visit. By the way, they moved the Neon from the corner of the intersection (where it was plainly in view) to the inside of the lot where you can't even see it anymore  guess they didn't enjoy all the publicity it was giving them (the lady at the lot doesn't know that my wife and I are together, since we went to the lot on two separate occasions alone lol).

as that is the obviously easy choice, i'd still go at them for the principal of it. somebody has to teach them a lesson and if he doesn't, who knows how many more people they will screw over.

if they argue with you more, just bring it to the paper. there's always room on like page 6 of the community section for stuff like this

With all this time you're wasting on that 11k SXT that's going to need a new paint job anyways, you could find be finding a nice R/T perhaps or just buy SRT bumpers/wing for your car instead of buying a whole new vehicle if you want that look soo bad.

I don't know- I would keep at it if I thought that I could get the people at the car lot to understand exactly what they are selling. It would be pretty dumb for them (the car lot) to let a cash sale walk away.

Why so sore, Forest? His wife wants it, and it's a 5-speed Neon. None of this car or it's parts are for his car. PLUS they stumbled across it, they didn't go out hunting.

I just don't see the point in trying to haggle down an extremely over-priced vehicle down to most likely still a large price from a shady dealer.

Add with it most likely needing a new paint job, that will negate any deals if they were to give you one, and you then still have a 10k Neon.

or swoop in like a ninja in the night and snag the bumpers and trunk wing lol

it's more of a principal thing than anything else if you ask me. and there's no way i'd walk away from that lot paying more than 4k if i were him, thus a 6-7k neon (which isn't bad for an 05 srt-d)

again, he doesn't want the parts... he wants the car for his wife

I wouldn't mind paying 4.5k for it, which is probably the highest I'd go. But even then, they don't want that price anyway. I don't think that's a bad offer considering it's got 100k+ miles on it (my '05 has ~55k miles on it, but then again I went over to Afghanistan twice in the last 4 years lol). We do want to head over there next week sometime and see if we can talk to someone other than the "attendant" who only knows as much as the paper she prints.
Hudson_Neon wrote:again, he doesn't want the parts... he wants the car for his wife
At least there's a few reading this thread that understand that point of fact

I know you were getting it for your wife to drive, i was kidding lol SRT-D body partts are hard as hell to find. Bring $4,500 cash (if you can) offer them $4K cash, show the cash, its in a stealerships nature they see cash they'l probably give in, just sayin,

Haha you guys. She registered in December after I left for my last deployment before Christmas '09. She bought me the 2010 Calendar and I think she was asking around for help on where to get it. It was a pretty awesome surprise to get it mailed to me out in Afghanistan lol.

I think we're going to limp my wife's Saturn until our next tax return. Coolant light came back on, so I guess it's leaking somewhere? I don't know... would be better if we got a car that I'm familiar with :)

constantly losing coolant and you dont see any puddles...sounds like a bad head gasket. Might want to top off the coolant and limp the Saturn down to the shady dealer and use it as a trade in...LOL

The paint would be a concern for me, why was it sprayed? I see a lot of neons, mine included, that have peeling paint. Luckily I am more interested in having fun behind the wheel, that a purdy car.

The prices on used Neons has sky rocketed around here due to the higher gas prices...35 mpg in a light, tossable car is a HUGE selling point right now!

The problem is that insurance values don't reflect that. They won't pay out that, if it is totaled. Especially with the mileage. You will need some serious gap insurance to be safe.

We don't know if it was repainted... Just that it has the classic bubbling in the paint.

They tend to do this over time (look at the bumpers)

The clearcoast basically disappears. Most of the same color Neons are the same way around here. Front and back bumpers look matte.

Wrong. The pictures you are showing are the early cars with the color molded into the bumpers, as opposed to being painted. The same thing does not happen to the later painted bumpers.

There are some stories of paint defects in the Flame red cars in late '04/'05 but its not that bad, and can usually be wet sanded out.

Also, SRT-D's did not come with 4 wheel discs unless spec'd with the ABS package. They all came side moulding delete though.

Good luck getting it for what its worth. There is one for sale near me right now for $4900 with 100K kms (60k miles). Silver, MTX, Sunroof, Alloys etc...

I've seen it happen to all colors of the early 2000-2001 molded bumpers.

and Bill, negative. Haven't decided yet.

That's odd. I have yet to see it happen to any other color.
