High flow cat and CA Emissions

Hey, I am trying to decide whether or not to put on this vibrant high flow cat I got. MP told me that it would pass emissions and the guy at the local muffler center where I'm going to get it put on told me that it wouldn't because of the already close emissions. I was just wondering if anyone here is in CA who would know.
My car is an 03 and so I don't even have to worry about having a smog check done for another 3 years anyway which by then I most likely won't even be living in CA.

you dont have to worry about smog check unles you get pulled over for a loud exhaust (modified exhaust system) just a fyi

the vibrant is the highest flowing cat out there hence the price. it has a metal monolith core where as others have a ceramic, so it can withstand higher tempatures and i guess the flow rates are just insane compared to the other cats on the market.

I called the muffler center today and hopefully I'm going to be getting everything put on (kirk longtube, vibrant high flow cat, and 2.5" magnaflow exhaust) on wednesday. Edwards AFB is a little north of the Lancaster/Palmdale area. It's in the middle of nowhere heh.

in CA you must pass a smog test every two years in order to register the car

u might/will fail emissions testing since the kirk LTH will have to relocate your cat. BTW i passed emission with my complete magnaflow catback exhaust.

I hate to say it but I did some research this morning about federal and california emission regulations. Basically anyone here with a CAI, TB, catback and any other non CARB exempt mod can be fined for emission alterations
The last time I did a dynomax converter install the NYS inspector was going to nail me for a NON oem and relocated converter. But dynomax gives you a small index card to show inspection stations that this is a completely legal cat and conforms to blah, blah regulations.
The only thing I can suggest is when you do get a replacement cat, make sure it has some form of a legal document stating that the cat is legal.

Whats up with all these inspections you guys are talking about? Does this only go on in the populated states? I live in Ks and never heard of such a thing out here. Do you guys go to some place where they test your car every 2 years for emissions? If so that must suck.

well here in knoxville, tn i dont have emissions either. That would suck some balls if i did though, so I hope we never do. i would almost get out and move to a place that didnt.

yes i know that, i was only stating that if he gets pulled over for a overly loud exhaust they are gonna want to have it rechecked.

sorry, misunderstood what you were sayin :P i dont know if it is city by city, but here in fresno you will get a ticket from the police for any sort of modified exhaust.. runs about $200. And if they check under the hood you are screwed too, basically any visible emissions violations and the cops will give you a ticket on the spot

i wish i could live somewhere where ive never heard of smog tests and emissions. i got my apexi catback on the way and reading all this shit just makes me more and more worried about gettin busted. anyone know if cops give tix for silenced mufflers or just noisy ones? like i said in another post, im workin on gettin an apexi ECV so i can shut off/ open up my exhaust from inside the cockpit. yum

Yeah same with mee orangeblastsxt...I'm thinking about registering my car in Minnesota where we don't have to worry about emissions since I'm in the military and that is my home state.

can they give you a ticket for a silenced muffler? technically yes because it is considered a modified emission component, unless it is C.A.R.B. legal and you have the sticker/card.

will they? you probably will not get bothered just for that.. but if you happen to get pulled over for something else or are out cruising.. the cop may be in a shitty mood and ticket you.

cops are notorious for giving those types of tickets here, plus i have bad luck.. so i just went with the stock r/t muffler to avoid the hassle

In NewYork when its time for inspection, not only do they give you a visual. All OBDII vehicles get plugged into an insoection machine through your OBDII port. And then NYS scans the car for the VIN, mileage, emision monitors.
Only then you would pass if NYS gives the ok. So If I had an 01 PCM in my 02 R/T and NYS see's the vins dont match, thats an automatic FAIL. God I hate NYS inspections..
