MPG Mods?

Post by Lucanesti » Mon Nov 28, 2011 2:50 pm

Ok, I been looking around for which mods I can do to increase MPG.

All I've been able to find is basic guides telling me to change the spark plugs or drive like the asshole everyone flips off cause hes doing less than 60 on the highway and accelerating slower than a stoned hippie with a cop behind him.

Please use the really cool "search" button up there. A quick search pulls this up....

That thread was very disappointing.

Throw out my A/C and drive 55 miles is all I got out of it.

Other than what you said in your first and second post, that about the long and the short of it.

Yeah, and you're welcome.

Try this, too

Don't seem so disappointed with results others are finding for you.

Install a vacuum gauge, and don't let it ever read zero.

All the things that make cars more comfortable to drive are the things that cost gas mileage. Throw away everything. Lose 600lb out of the car. Use an underdrive pulley. Drive 40 in 5th on the highway. On an extended trip, you'll probably get 50mpg. Although at the cost of half again the time that it normally would have taken you plus the frustration of having to look at the same corn field that much longer before getting to the next one.

- lighten the load... both you and your vehicle on a diet
- make sure the engine is well maintained
- correct tire pressure
- no excessive idling
- no trips just to drive around
- no fueling it right up to the stop light only to slam on the

I get 32mpg highway in the SRT. You should be able to get a fair amount of mileage, without sacrificing anything, just by paying attention to your driving. Neons aren't gas hogs at all....unless you force them

I just drive and get mid to upper 30s on highway trips.

If you don't like that, get a different car. My personal high is 40mpg.

This is on a 1gn but all the same principals apply. If you have an atx you're shit out of luck.

I don't need no stinking MS.

In all seriousness, 03+ cars, because of the deep 5th and an optimized computer, can easily get upper 30s on a regular basis.

Well yeah, if you throw city in the mix that goes out the window.

I'll probably be driving my Neon back and forth to work for a week or so while my work car is getting repair, so it will be interesting to see what it gets then.

But yeah, the 40mpg tank was pure 65mph highway.

City/Urban, I get 30 -32, with the .81 fifth gear. I think the .74 fifth would kill city mileage if fifth was used. Mine still seems to like 4th better for ~35 mph. But fifth still does ok. I no longer hit 40 hwy with the Magnum head. 38 maybe. You would think 3000+ rpm would do better with larger exhaust ports. :shrugs:

I got 32.5 all highway with my latest car. Checked the air in the tires and getting 33.5 now. It's all highway but I do hit a fair amount of traffic.

I get about 33-34 mpg in the city doing 40-45 mph, but I could probably get better if I really tried. Highways are 70 mph around here, which means 75-80 mph with the flow of traffic. Not sure what my mpg is for highway since I do 80/20 city/highway.
