ebrake

On an atx, does the ebrake do anything to benefit? My manager said it helps the transmission so it doesn't wear out as fast, but I didn't know if this was true

If you park on a hill, it's better for your tranny if you put the ebrake on when still in [D], let the car settle against the ebrake, and then move the shifter into park. On level ground, it doesn't really matter.

And the e-brake is deffinitely the most fun part of a car

What if you set it while you are in "R"?

Same deal. The main point is to let the weight of the car rest against the ebrake when on a hill. You could be in reverse, neutral, or drive....as long as you put the ebrake on (and set it hard enough that it actually holds), then take your foot off the brake and let the car rest against the ebrake. THEN, put the car into park.

it also helps u brake harder and stops the car quicker. ive gotten away from 3 wrecks on the street and highway by pulling the ebrake then mashing the brake. car stops about 25 feet sooner.. and this is going about 60-70 mph

you should give it a try when safe to do so. see for your self.

LOL you are kidding right?

First of all if you pulled your e-brake and you braked more that means you werent braking with your foot hard enough and waaaay beyond tires maximium grip.

Also, if you pull the e-brake hard while you are in movement well lol, you will end up spining, thats a very dangerous and wrong advice :?

last time i checked its hard to have rear drums lock. and if you use the ebrake on a straight away then you shouldnt have a problem. ive never had an issue with it, then again i dont do it often.

mmm... disk brakes have minidrums for the e-brake, so your "maxi" drums are very easy to lock, and even in a straight line you cant go straight with locked rear wheels, sorry but you are wrong dude, trust me.

The ebrake is useful for parking and to oversteer, thats it.

Last time I pulled the ebrake while driving, i was goin straight, gave it a pull, car started to turn sideways... scared the livin shit outta me friend

My old car used to me a 91 Ford Tempo GL, i pulled the ebrake in that thing in a parkin lot one night driving straight, car literally turned sideways.

Needles to say, pullin the ebrake when driving, WILL make u wanna go sideways. :?
