Motor Mounts.....
I just noticed today that my upper mount might need to be replaced. One of the rubber pieces is not connected to the middle metal part. The rubber is also pretty cracked. Can I put inserts in to fix, of do I need to replace mount and then do inserts? If I can just do inserts, which ones should I get. I know there are a couple of options for us now. Thanks.

You can just do inserts... http://www.modernperformance.com/dcx/pl2000_index.shtml
I think alot of the people on here have the prothane inserts though, and like them...Im sure there are more companies that make the inserts too.
or you could do solid dogbone style mounts like i have..there are a few companies that make them for the srt, but they will fit our neons too...AGP, PSI-FI (I have these) but you feel every vibration w/ them, and pay a bit more, in the neighborhood of $125-$150, but worth it over just the inserts IMOProthane Motor Mount Inserts RACE (harder urethane) and STREET (softer urethane) forms Red or Black
$23.99
Available in STREET and RACE version. Street inserts are designed to make motor mounts to last longer, Race inserts are designed for better traction, less wheel hop.

You can also fill your mounts. I have filled COMPLETELY BROKEN mounts before and it work great!
Budget way = Hot glue. Search it (its in the how to i beleive). Quite a bit of vibration, but very ltitle wheel hop. Quick and easy, VERY cheap ($4?)
Good way = buy 60a or 80a shore Liquid Urethane and fill. Little vibration, reduces wheel hop pretty well. 2 days drying time, around $30.

I have Deyeme flex mounts in my car. Inserts, I noticed caused more vibrations than Deyeme filled mounts, and the dog-bone style mounts are illegal for STS and STX class cars, as they add metal/remove bushing material from the stock mount. Which was my main concern.

I totally missed this part when I was going over the rulebook. I have Psi-Fi right now upper and lower right now but I'm going to be taking them off because its more vibration then I'd like when starting from a stop during everyday driving.Mopar00Neon wrote:I have Deyeme flex mounts in my car. With the deyeme mounts, would you guys recommend get just the upper and lower or getting the tranny mount as well. I'm building my car up for STS and only got the Psi-Fi's because I got them for a good price and was buying alot of stuff from a guy.

Inserts can be used.Engine mounts may be replaced, but must attach in the factory location(s) without additional modification or changes. Engine position may not be changed. The volume of metal in a replacement mount may not be increased relative to the volume of metal found in a stock mount for the particular application. Solid metal mounts are specifically prohibited. Any non-metallic inserts may be used.

Agreed. If youre going to spend the money, go with Deyeme. They were one of my first mods done to every neon Ive owned. They are a little expensive but WELL worth the price. And you never have to worry about them going out/tearing.nodestiny wrote:But if you want the best, filled mounts are betterhehehe

Did you get just the upper and lower or did you get the tranny as well? I'm debating if i should get the tranny mount.Mopar00Neon wrote:Agreed. If youre going to spend the money, go with Deyeme. I did upper and lower and tranny mount.
The tranny mount is the most difficult to replace, but I can do all 3 in about 20-30 minutes.

Unless you have a lack of tools and knowledge like myself
The tranny mount was a pain to get to, i ended up leaving it (but will return to fill it eventualy!)
Top mount = 2 bolts, put new one in, eay as that! Less than 5 minutes
Bottom mount = jack up pass side remove tire, remove a few bolts, and bolt new one back in.

I have compleat mounts. I never put inserts in my 2000. Learned well before it that I dont like inserts.
I vote Deyeme, all the way.

Oh my, it's a resurrection...

So did this GM mount worth it? Any long-term reports on it. I'm thinking maybe some round polyurethane bushings could replace the rubber ones and make for a cheap upper strut dogbone.

I replaced it with this:
NAPA for $10-$12 - part#620-1496
It helped a bit, but nothing to really brag about. Definately noticed less engine rock with it...
