Loss of A/C

I've noticed that when I have the A/C running for a while, the air speed coming out of the vents decreases. One day I tried turning on just the fan after the A/C was on and the air speed was gone. After having just the fan on for a little while, the air speed picked back up. Has anyone else had this problem and know a solution other than what I mentioned above?
