I found it in the trunk,

2 cables and plug into the trunk harness.

what it is, how does this work

Since the latch is removed, it isn't an electric trunk latch. Unless it turns the lock cylinder to unlock the trunk, I really have no other ideas. Might be an export only item.

its part of the alarm system i think it protects from pulling the lock cylinder out... it has a small button that depresses when it is installed and its against the outside of the trunk so thats my assumption. i have one installed it was from an 00-02 and my 05 had the wiring so i did it,

Good to know.

Mine is a low option car. If A/C was an option, that would have been the only one it had. So there are none of those items there, not even the wiring for it. I know, because I had to add wiring to put the power latch in.

yeah what blue neon said, its a security system sensor, US cars had them too if equipped

OD: my old one was the same way But the new one is wired for everything except a hood sensor for the alarm.
