Ok, I've decided to stick with 40 series tires. Anyone run 225/40/17 tires? Did you have to do modifications for this? If this is not possible I will go with 215/45/17 on the srt-4 wheels I am buying.

i believe the 215/45 will not work, rubing issues on the strut perches.

no, srt wheels and tires wont fit...i tried it with the rims off my srt and there is major rub against the spring perch even with 3 3mm spacers slapped on

i believe the biggest u can go with on stock struts are 215/40/17. this is what i have been led to believe. now if you get coilovers you will have more room to run the 225/40/17.

ya but then u just arent quite as cool. with coils u can get some 19s under that thing and drop'r about 4.5". but ya, srt struts work too.

i have 215/40/18 tires. they fit without a problem. however, there is like barely any clearance on the back inbetween the tire and spring perch, but just enough for the wheel and tire to fit in there. and i think 225 might be too wide on the 17s for them to fit? <- correct me on this if im wrong

You guys are hilarious. Didn't you read the post where he asked to see pictures of 215/45R17 tires?? I posted mine (on SRT wheels to boot) and so did Loud-e-nuf. My brother also uses 215/45R17's on his SRT wheels. They fit.


SRT tires don't though......because they're 205/50R17. Big difference.

Whoa, calm down, I forgot to put a after my hilarious comment. I honestly just thought it was funny that he had asked about 215/45s like 4 posts down, and then twice people said in this thread they didn't think 215/45's would work. And you did said you thought 215/40's were the "biggest" you could go on a stock struck....he was wondering about 215/45's, which are bigger, just not wider, but still relevant to the rubbing issue. Anway, I think I missunderstood your post, either way, no big deal. I wasn't trying to jump in and be like, "ya'll are stupid" or anything....

rice_eater said something about SRT wheels and tires too...which threw me off, because the SRT tire size wasn't even mentioned in this thread. I probably just read everything too fast....it's been known to happen.

im sorry quik. i shouldnt have came off that hard. its been a long week of me being sick and in bed and well i havent been in the best of moods. heck ive been going off on everyone here. my mistake though also, i did put that i thought 215/40 were the biggest. i shoulda made it 45 because i have seen people with those also. my bad.

And now I'm going to add an actual statement refering to the title of this thread specifically. I'm pretty sure that once you get to a 225 width, you run into the problem of the tire being wide enough that you either... a) rub it real hard on the liner on the inside of the wheel well when you have the wheels turned all the way to lock, or b) rub on the lip of the fender/quarter panels. It all depends on what offset wheel you use. An offset like 35 will cause option (b), whereas an offset like 40 or 42 will cause option (a). Never mind the fact that would most definately need coilovers to fit. To fit on standard stock struts, the offset would have to be so great (less than 35) that the tires would definately rub on the fenders.

Get a widebody kit to move the fenders out, and run some 235's on 8" wide wheels. That could be sweet if done right. [/i]

I am going to use the same combo as you, the srt-4 wheels with 245/40/17. That will look good. Does this affect your gas mileage?ANd how is the ride?

I hope you mean 215/45....hahaha. Gas mileage wise, I've never gotten a big difference, no matter what wheels/tires I'm running. And the ride is great....much better than on 215/40's. Thats with stiff lowering springs though...on stock springs, you wouldn't tell a difference. Plus the extra sidewall protects the tires. I wouldn't recommend mounting the tires yourself....it might actually be impossible. Pay a tire shop to do it for sure.
