Differences in Model Years 2003-2005

Post by BigDaddy » Sun Sep 14, 2014 1:45 pm

Hello,

I have searched both here and Google, yet have not found a satisfactory list.

Is there a comprehensive list that details the exact differences in Neon/SX2.0 model years?

In essence, an update log, detailing exactly what was changed each year.
Specifically, 2003, 2004, and 2005.

I believe this information would be incredibly helpful to anyone interested in working on multiple Neons with different model years, and anyone looking to buy a Neon of a specific model year.

Thank you,

Big Daddy

Any specific information you're looking for? From memory, the only thing i can think of that was changed from 2003-2005 were the 03 SRT's had a different differential than the 04/05. Other than that, im 95.51$ positive nothing was changed on the other models from 03+

Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

The PCM programming in '05 was a bit more touchy to mods, and '05 was the only year for OB paint, and SRT-D trim.

Others on the site can be more helpful about mechanical differences but I can point out things that are more cosmetic. Front and rear fascias changed several times during the 2GN's model years. Options came and went as well (I think that the Canadian Chrysler Neons were much better equipped than what we got here in the US). Anything specific in this area that you are seeking information on?

You see, we presently have a 2004 sx2.0 daily driver, and a 2005 parts car. However, we're looking at buying a third Neon, for my wife. We're looking at 2001-2005 model years.

I'm an electronics guy by education. Just got out of the Army after a decade of service, and I have a number of modifications in various stages of development:

- Heated mirrors, actuated by the defrost switch
- Heated seats
- Rear window washer and wiper system
- Dash cam, front and rear
- Reverse sensors and camera system
- Dual battery with isolator charging circuit
- Decklid LED modification to make it similar to the Dart
- Centre console with compass, thermometer
- Antenna relocation
- Stereo controls embedded into steering wheel
- OBD II display
- Solar charging circuits

Options I am stripping from the 2005 parts car and grafting into the 2004:

- Power windows
- Power locks
- Power mirror control
- Decklid release actuator
- Alarm
- Aftermarket remote starter

It is my nature to document every project I perform, with pictures of each part, each step.
However, it is also my nature to seek out as much documentation as I can prior to action.
I have the service manuals, parts catalogues, and Haynes manuals; it was my hope to find designer documentation or a changelog regarding variances between each revision of the Neon.
It would save myself, and others interested in such upgrades, quite a significant amount of time.

Thank you for reading this. I hope the resources to spring from this thread to contribute to the furthering of the Neon community.

If I remember correctly, this was an option on 2000 and 2001 Canadian Neons so you could probably find the parts (and wiring harnesses) in a junkyard search.

There is a compass/temperature mirror for the Neon- would sourcing one ease an install? Here is the part number:
5008648AD MIRROR-INS $415.00 (list as of 1-14-14).

I'm sure not all the differences are there, but here are some:

Main thing to watch for is the computers between ATX and MTX, as 04-ish eliminated the power steering switch and the engine harnesses are significantly different. As far as paneling, blocks, internals, interior, etc. . . all that stuff is the same. Someone here may have specifics but I know 03 is different 04/05 for wiring and connectors as well as slightly more dramatic changes from ATX -> MTX, especially with the R/T in 2004.

2nd Source: I'm that guy.

Gramps - heated mirrors were on a lot of U.S. cars before 03 as well. I had them on my 00 Plymouth LX

Yes, I have some US brochures that show this being optional here but I wanted to stress Canadian availability since the OP is from Ontario.

I mean, worst case Ontario is that he gets a U.S. part. It doesn't take rocket appliances to see the different. It's all water under the fridge at this point.

BigDaddy, have you looked on Allpar.com? They have a section on the Neons, and do have some details on the changes from one model year to the next.
Heated mirrors and seats, those are options that would be nice in my R/T. Especially during the polar blasts every winter around here.

Howdy, yes, Allpar has been a fantastic resource, as well as Mr. Nikkel's website.

It is true that some of the so-called modifications I have been working on have already been created, OEM.
However, would you pay $415 for a heated mirror, when you could modify your current mirrors with $45 worth of parts?

This is my belief.
