I just went outside to start my car and it started up fine but the guages started going back and forth so I shut it down and started it again.....Same thing happens but she runs fine so I go to where I have to go and come back. Now I get into my car to go bring my wife her Valentines and it wont start.........clackclackclackclackclack............ but the funny thing is everything works but the guages are going all wacky and then just stop working pinned back all the way forward.......

I got it figured out..........It was the battery. I have never experienced anything like that before. In a battery that is dieing usually it just starts to go not get all crazy......anyways does anyone know how to get a optima in a 2gen

it should bolt right up...the battery tray has to be modified a bit for the yellow top, but the red top fits right up.

ACTUALLY, the red top needs a slight mod to fit perfectly. The base is to wide to sit down in the tray, so if you pull out the tray and take some tin snips to the sides that face the passenger side (your left when looking at the engine from the front of the car) and snip the top and bottom, than bang and flatten out, the battery goes all the way in. :headbang:

I just sat mine in there...it stuck out over the tray a little bit, but thats about it. I also had to put mine in facing 'backwards' because my terminals wouldnt reach all the way....something odd ive always had to deal w/ w/ my car

i crammed a yellow top in mine... same problem as chic had cept... the terminals are spaced a lil furthar apart than the stock battery was, so my connectors are sorta angled to make em fit...

and heres a clamp on the battery tray too, i loosend it up put the yellow top in and retightned the clamp... it hangs a lil over 1 side, but hey, its a dry cell no liquid and its secure :P

also, if you wanna know the # for my battery its the OY-D35 dont let em push the other ones on ya, they wont fit

Yeah I was actually thinkin about messin with the tray but I didnt have time so I took the battery back and got an interstate. Works. I will probably have my buddy at the body shop use the stock tray as a template and measure out a red top and then make an exact fit for the optima. But until then I dont think optima is the way to go. I had the smallest one they make and width wise it was fine but it is an inch to long and I didnt fell like messin with it in the dark at night in the middle of a parking lot

How long would a red top keep a charge I have on in my trunk been there for 2 to 3 months not hooked up. Think it will still start the car or should I put it on a charger for a few hours?

It should still start the car.....if not then you can use a super hard trick..............Start you car and keep it runnin and then pull the battery out and put the optima in and bolt it up and leave the car runnin
