Melted Fuse Question

So my headlights died the other day. Checked the fuses, and #16 is melted away. Just gone.

The plan is to hunt down a new fuse box, but for now i do not have the time and need those headlights. I have read that a short-term solution is to use an inline fuse holder etc.

Question. Looking at the back of my fuse box, i can only find one wire going into fuse 16. Is this normal?

I am not sure how to do this work and can use as much advice/help as possible.

You may want to pull the MFS out and check the connector there also.

Fuse 16 goes to the MFS, which switches the power to the VT/WT wire from the MFS switch to the fuse box fuses 17 left headlamp and 18 right headlamp.

Fuse 8 is for both high beams left and right.

You may have a melted MFS connector, which overheated the fuse block. Or it could have just been a weak fuse box fuse slide that wasn't making good enough contact.

Melted MFS issues are fairly common.

Fuses 13, 14, 15, and 16 are all powered via a single bar, so yes, you will have only one wire coming off of each of those fuses. There should be one heavy wire RD/WT wire from the PDC - fuse 3 (40amp) feeding all four fuses.

Should be able to, but you may need to run a wire from the battery. Put the fuse holder near the battery. (After verifying the MFS is in good shape)

Do you have any idea why the fuse melted?
I think, work on the reason first.
a neon - what else ?

You may find the reason in the connector to the mfs when you pull it out. As i has written in my foglight rewire post, it is due to a design flaw by Chrysler. Having the mfs feed the headlights and foglights directly instead of thru a relay. This is why we see the melted connectors and mfs's. The connector melts, the pins touch each other and short out the circuits, resulting in melted fuses.
