How to remove back seat to install new speakers

I would like some help on removing my back seat of my 03 sxt. I can pop the bottom up but the back part I'm confused on how it comes off and don't want to break anything

. I want to take them off to install new 6 x 9 speakers on the back dash. I have the speaker wiring harness and all already. Would someone be able to describe how it comes off?

There are four bolts holding the seatback in. Two of them also anchor the seat belts. Take them out and pull upwards on the seatback. The top part has hooks that go into slots, and it will be tight. Have to push upwards hard.

Those bolts can be a real nightmare, sometimes they're rusted like crazy other times not bad. Good luck

Also be careful removing the child seat latch covers. They are now getting old and fragile in most neons.

Midwesterners and Northeasterners should carry a can of PB Blaster or Kroil at all times !!

Other than that, this process is pretty straightforward.... Once you get the torx bolts removed.

those 4 torx bolts were the biggest P in the A for me when i replaced my speakers. Also, occasional demons is right about the latch covers lol. mine broke off very easily, but i didnt care about the covers.

you would need to find another way of getting the carpet in the back window up without removing the back seat. or, if you dont care that much, you could just cut the carpet aroundf the speaker out. thats probably the fastest way, but also the ugliest way.

You could pry up the rear deck but you would have to be careful not to bend it too far and break it. That is how I did it when I replaced mine when I had my 03.

Would popping the black pins to the carpet up from the trunk give me the leverage to fold down the carpet?

If you have access to an air compressor and an impact gun, the torx bolts will come out quickly. Or, lacking air power, a hand impact driver could work, just use a 5lb mallet to smack the impact driver. Iirc, the torx bolts are T50. If you buy a set of torx bits, try to get the hardened ones, those won't break as easily. That's the only type i buy now from my dealer, as the regular bits break too easily.

heres how i did it i took off the back pillars yes they come off i took the seat belt retaining clips the plastic pieces the seatbelts come out from and i then pryed up the carpet its a pain in the arse but you can do it without taking the seats out
