2GN, has it really been this long!

Since the 2GN "REBOOT" I've been browsing along checking out some of the topics and I sat back and realized one thing. This Forum has been around for 14years now
2006 was the first "Official" 2GN meet at Carlisle and most "Veterans" of the site were already members since 2004!
Just think, 2019 2GN.ORG will have been around for 15years! Now how many of us veteran members feel like were getting old..
Members have come and gone, others have actually came back! Granted recently a majority of members have been posting on FaceBook vs here in the 2GN forum, but thats still all well and good since the 2gn group still carries on even though it may not be here in the 2gn site.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think 2GN.org is one of the first 2GN Neon related sites to ever exist?
=D> =D> =D> =D>

PS - I checked Neons.org and there site shows postings as far back as 2006 where 2GN has postings back as far as 2004

2GN for life man. This forum and the members have been like family for me (and now wife).

When I first started posting on here, I was nearing the end of high-school.

Since then..
Graduated high school
Graduated tech school
Owned 3 more neons
Had 3 jobs
Got married (2gn members attended)
First kid on the way (2gn members will be apart of my Daughter's life)

No matter where I go, or what I do. I know there will be 2gn members involved along the way.

This forum is family.

That's what I always love about forums.. Only recently joined the site myself (Last summer), but I have used many forums for a damn good number of years. So I know that alot of times, the members of forums bond together and become some sort of family to each other.
So yeah, as much as I enjoy the social media nowadays, I still prefer the good old forums. (Even prefer setting them up compared to social media... Damn, they're a pain lol )

Also, Damn... Haven't really noticed the age of this site yet, but that is a long time! Such a good period of time with good information nicely catalogued by the family here.

The .Org has been around since 2002, and in other forms long before forums came along, but I don't know when they created a specific section for 2nd gens. I sure they were discussed previous to having a dedicated section though.

I think maybe a 1gn section should have been created here, it might have worked out better than 1gn.org.

There is probably a little more quality 2gn information here though, since the bulk of neons . org was geared towards 1gn's.

The irony is 1gn's will probably outlive 2gn's as far as daily drivers go in the rust belt. I see more 1gn's in better shape than 2gn's in my neck of the woods.

I've said this before, but if you told financially-struggling recent-college-graduate me in 2005 that this used Neon I was about to buy would be taking me and my family on vacations with a toddler seat strapped in the back of it with 200,000+ miles racked up on it over a decade later, I would have laughed in your face. With that said, this forum has been there for me nearly as long as the car in my driveway.

And to think that I almost skipped that first Carlisle.

"And to think that I almost skipped that first Carlisle"
Technically a bunch of us did miss the first Carlisle meet as it was "Unofficial"
It would be great if we seen some photos from that gathering....lol
Now we need to get a chronological order of "Official" 2GN meet photo's going. This way members can view photos from Carlisle 2006 to present Vs searching around the site for the specific photos.
But as mentioned before, this group is like family and we all grew up together..lol....
We have had some good times and bad times, we have all changed over the years. Or at least most of us....lol
I still remember the early years where people's underwear and socks ended up in the tree we hang under at the HW west, the nights were members would end up drunk hanging by the thruway fence yelling at the cops, the motorcycle driving through the motel, the burnout in the parking lot that could be seen for years using Google GPS, etc...etc.....LOL
I'm still waiting for someone to post the video of the night we had the pinnate where someone struck the light pole with a tire iron....lol

Yes, yes, and yes. I definitely have plenty of photos from 2006 that I could share. I'm still waiting for some of the dust to settle on the whole Photobucket thing before I start dumping everything to a new hosting site.

I forget which online maps service it was, but one had a VERY clear picture of that burnout. I can't even remember what year that was.

The pinata... hahahah that pole shall ring forevermore in honor of 2GN shenanigans.

It was Anthony (glaswars) (sp?) that wacked the pole instead of the pinata, hung via, I believe Chris' (BRR) garden hose. LOL. Good times. I think that was my first Carlisle.

What an impression you guys made.

And I even came back after that.

It's been a long road since we started this journey back in 04.

I was working at a bank and sat on the site during my downtime. Then I left there, went to work at another bank and the biggest thing I remember about then was an issue with Howell. Using an early PocketPC smart phone and being on a business trip to Atlanta, I remember having to close the forum down for a day or so because of the drama that was going on with him and a customer.

I remember the first time going to Carlisle and there being maybe 10 of us in total. Going bowling, eating pizza at the alley that had been sitting there for hours. Hanging out at J-Villa's house. It was a great time.

In all... I've been through 4 employers, moved 500 miles south to SC, married, step-kids and still have the Neon that started it all for me. It's hard to remember everything that's happened in these last 14 years!

Got to love it!!!!
2GN has been a family to a lot of us!
As for the ringing pole....LOL, yeah I brought two 50ft water hoses figuring I would need to run water from somewhere to my car to wash it. Instead it was used as the hanging rope for the pinnate' off the light pole. When Anthony took a swing, we raised the pinnate so he would miss and that "TONG" noise is forever in my memory...LOL
Who remembers the "Nut" shot challenge? probably not the sober members...lol There was one year a group of us did a "nut" shot challenge to see who could take a punch to the area and survive. It actually boiled down to me and "TeamLivid". We ended up calling it even because we could not take each other down......OMG....LOL.... Since then, him and I have been friends and he's an awesome guy to know! to bad I met him in the strangest way...LOL
It's amazing after all these years the 2GN group still sticks together :)
I just wish some of the members closest to me were not 4-6hrs away :(
My cousin "cokedoktor" is the closest 2gn member to me......

"Jason" what are the chances of your server being able to support a certain amount of MB's for some members to upload pics? I'm not saying give someone 100GB's of space to upload pics but what about a few hundred, just enough to support there signatures or avatar's??

As for J-Villa, what happened to him? he has not shown up recently

You should be able to host avatars on the site. I made that change a week or so back.

As for other hosting - I'm going to work on seeing if there's a 3rd party that I can incorporate into the sites that way everyone can upload and host pics, may not on 2GN but at a 3rd party service. Still researching.

Geez Jason way to make me panic, first the site goes down, then it hard resets to 2015, then the site went down for like 3-4days, I thought it was gone forever...... but yea I realised the other day when I got a bug up my ass to dust off the old second gen and bro g her back from the dead that i might want to up date my build log.......04OCT2011 was my last entry.....hole-ree chit....i didn't believe it, damn it has been forever, but this group has been like a distant family for me, especially when swapping my atx for a mtx, swapping in my 420A etc etc, I for one am glad to be back, and glad to see the site is still around...... there is a fb group for the 2gns ? I've been hardcore on my nissan s14 drift kick so I have been a little out of the neon loop lol

I wish more people would migrate from the Facebook group, back to the forums. I like the format here, so much more than Facebook.

I got into Neons in March of 2002. I was stoked when this site first started, because I was tired of digging through first gen info on the other site. I've been in and out of Neons through the years and each time I've had a second gen, I've come back to this board. It's still my favorite, after all these years.

Jeremy, what would it take for you to join us in Carlisle, even with no car? There's about 50 people that would probably offer you a ride from the airport.

Seriously, the year we "returned" to the Harrisburg West felt like a triumph. That's our true Carlisle home.

I wonder if maybe this year we could set up a couple pop up tents in the grassy area and leave them there for the weekend. This way theres actually a shaded area where we all park to hang out under. And hopefully the dumpster is gone...lol
When I left last year (Thurs morning the following week) the smell of urine was still lingering when it got warm outside....LOL

I don't know. I toyed with the idea of driving over, but then we took a family trip down to Disneyland this summer and it made me rethink that idea. The drive took about 24 hours and it's less than half the distance to Carlisle. It was rough. Plus, I no longer have AC in the Neon, so it would be extra terrible in the middle of summer. That brings up flying and leaving the car at home. It could happen. I would honestly be kind of bummed to show up to my first 2gn meet without a car, but I'm sure it would still be fun. I'm on the fence about it at this point.

I read through all the posts and I too wish I could see pictures from the first Carlisle meets. I didn't join and go to my first Carlisle 2gn meet up until July of 2008 I believe. So much fun. Reason I came back and stick around is because of how much of a family get together it felt that first time going to the Carlisle PA meetup.

Hope to see everyone again this year.

Think about it. I would not expect you to drive. The furthest member that drives each year comes from Hudson, WI - only a few miles from the Minnesota state line. That's a lot closer than you are, and it's still completely insane.

I just figure you're less than half an hour from Seattle/Tacoma and the hotel is only about a 20-minute drive from Harrisburg International. It might not be too bad to fly. Sure, you'd probably have way more options for flights flying into Philadelphia or Pittsburgh, but they're 2 hours and 3.5 hours away from the hotel, respectively. That's rental car distance. Although, it would be pretty hilarious if you rented a Charger and registered it for the showfield.

Heck, the member from Wisconsin has made it to the show and home even though:
One year - installed at complete turbo setup at the fairgrounds and drove home
Another year - blew the hydraulics for his clutch
Another year - blew his engine, did a short block swap at the motel
I think there were other things also
LOL

One year he drove all the way there with "the valvetrain making a noise". I think one of his students put the rockers in backwards or something like that. Oh well, it's only 1100 miles at 3500-4000rpm the whole way, haha.

Sorry about that! phpBB released an update but when I performed the update it caused the site to crash again. Turns out it may be a larger issue with the update itself as others were experiencing the same issue.

There is a Facebook group for 2GN but sssh... let's try to get people back to the forum.

Let me correct myself on this post...
What I meant was at the motel itself and not at the fairgrounds. The inner area of the motel is a large grassy area that never gets used for anything :thumbleft:

Truth, when I bought my first neon in college (the 00) I never would've guessed it would get me through college, marriage/kids, sold away, bought back, sold away again to my cousin and still going strong to this day at 300k on the original engine id say you're crazy. But it's what got me started in life and neons. I couldn't be happier :)

Wow, that is crazy to think about. Now I feel old.

I found 2gn in early 06 and lurked ever since. Graduated college, got married, moved, moved again, two jobs and now two kids. 157k miles on the car now; it probably had about 55-60k at the time I joined.
