Welcome to the forum and the great world of neons. Basic info: a second gen neon is a 2000-2005 model year, and only parts from those years are interchangeable. Not ALL parts work with all models, and there are a few exceptions with the first gen (1995-1999) neon, such as springs, that interchange as well, but minus those few the gens are very different inside and out. The body style for the 00-02 is different than the 03+ neons as well, mainly in the front and rear fascias and lights.

Having cleared that up, there are LOTS of things you can do to your neon to upgrade and enhance it. Depending on what you want to do (performance, exterior/interior styling, audio, etc), there are several quality parts available from the aftermarket. Since your question has a ton of answers, and most of us have explained this a million times, ill give u a short basic overview of common mods:

Power/performance:

Cold air intake or drop in filter
hi flow muffler/rear section or full catback exhaust system
60mm throttle body
header
Magnum* -head/intake manifold/header swap

suspension:

springs and struts or coilovers
swap bars f/r
strut bars f/r
bushing kit
tires and wheels (stock tires = not good)

drivetrain:

short throw shifter
booger shift bushings

*magnum is the motor that came in the RT and ACR model neons, and basically, it came with better parts.

other than that there are the standard body parts available for any car (body kit, cf hood, mirrors etc). as you can tell the neon is no different than any other car with an aftermarket support, they make just about anything you can think of, and if they dont, you can DIY.

tip: use the SEARCH button for simple general questions like this from now on, people tend to get annoyed when a question is asked that has been asked a million times before.

did i cover most of the basics? anyone got more info for the noob?

feel free to ask more questions but keep your basic ones in this thread. good luck and again, welcome!

You will need 2000-up engine/suspension/drivetrain parts for upgrades.

Body upgrades as far as bumpers and stuff like that will need to be 03+

OB pretty much hit it on the head . . .

Those are your "basic" mods in a nutshell - you can also find how-to's on most of those here on the site as well

browse to the "for sale" threads . . . youll probably find some stuff there

http://www.modernperformance.com/

http://www.howellautomotive.com/

those are two great places for parts

ADD: Oh and welcome - Enjoy this site . . . I first started out over at neons.org . . . this site is MUCH better  8)

1st 4 mods in my book...intake, exhaust, header, (spray some laughing gas). neons are looked at as rental cars aka slow...So when u race some1 blow their doors off with alil spray. Just tell them u rented it for $500...+ $25 refills

^ or just don't race, and drive the speed limit. :)

^ dont race, then dont mod your car :?

Just go for altezza's, a huge silver wing, and some horrid primered body kit, and over sized wheels.

Some mods actually help with gas mileage. A free-flowing exhaust can make for slightly better mileage in some cases.

Another relatively easy mod that can improve horsepower include reducing weight and installing underdrive pulleys. A UDP delivers less power to your accessories, so you don't have to burn as much gas to keep them going.

Modding your car shouldn't be restricted to whether or not you are going to race every punk on the road. Theres nothing wrong with having that little extra power on the highway for passing, or when carrying a heavy load when travelling and such.

Saying that modding your car should only be for those wishing to race, is just retarded, especially when we are talking about a neon here.

hey sullygully your car look nice. But i'm not into the big wheels and body kits. I'm not saying if u mod your car u should race..Cuz we all know there is alot of show cars (which some people dont even drive) are modded. And there are a few guy on the forums who mod there cars to race. But i give u props on ya car though. 1 day i'll try to mae mine look betta. But 4 now i'm focusing on making it faster. I'm like the underdog at my shop. Every1 is like ya shit is slow, y i got a piece of shit neon. But soon and very soon the guys at work who talk shit and drive honda's is gonna get yanked my a neon. all i can say "its coming"

Apples to oranges right. I totally get what your saying. A hobby is a hobby, to each his own. As long as you have fun doing it, and it satisfies you, then by all means. :thumbright:

Sorry, guess I shoul have put a sarcasm quote in my post.

I didn't mean to imply that I thought modding your car means you should race, and if you aren't racing then don't mod it. I was simply being sarcastic - besides... you're retarded.
