A/C Issues

Post by wolfdemon268 » Sun Jul 08, 2018 11:44 am

Last summer my ac worked but the compressor and clutch pulleys were totally wasted, so i put a shorter belt on and puled the clutch relay untl this year when i replaced the whole compressor. Ive swapped all relays and put a new fuse in and still get no clutch operation, if i jumper the relay then the compressor does come on so i know the wiring from relay to copressor is good. Now when i "turn on the ac" the radiator fan does not kick on. Any help would be appreciated as i am competely stumped now and my wife due to health problems really needs the ac.

Check the pressure switches on the refrigerant lines. When the system is charged, the pressure switches should read dead short across the terminals. If they don't, either the system is too low on refrigerant, or the switch itself is bad.

If you don't have a multimeter to check them with, you could also try removing the connector and manually shorting across the wires. This will "tell" the computer that the pressures are correct.

You mentioned that your radiator fan won't kick on. Are you saying that it won't kick on when you manually short the compressor clutch relay?

IIRC, the fan(s) are not tied to the compressor relay. The PCM uses the high pressure switch as a signal to turn them on. The high pressure switch tells the PCM that the condenser is heating up, and needs cooled. This reduces fan run time in the winter when the defrost is on, or totally eliminates it when the car is moving fast enough.

Well ivbe checked for voltage at the connector for the lps and the only way i can get a reading is if i ground the black terminal to the battery, and even then its ony .35v. thats with the connector unplugged from the expansion block and no matter what i do i cannot get the hps connector to plug in all the way, its like theres something blocling it but i have looked and there isnt.

Until you get the high temp/pressure connector to seat, I doubt it is going to function.

What about the voltage issue? I only read voltage when I ground straight to battery

My guess is there is no voltage applied. IIRC,the other end of the wire goes to the PCM, which senses ground, and lets the A/C function. If it doesn't sense ground, it prevents the compressor from running.

They don't wire it up like old school. Everything is a "circuit sense" through the PCM. We has technology, no need for simple wiring.

So that could still be the system isn't filled properly? And or those sensors are bad?

Ok so here's an update, I've got voltage on the ac sense wire coming out of the pcm it also looks like there's voltage at the high pressure cut out switch but not at the low pressure cut out switch. So where do I go from here
