The Mancini Racing Valve covers

Post by Knoxville_R/T » Thu Feb 23, 2006 7:08 pm

The manual says to put some rtv silicone on the VC gasket. Is that really needed? Did you all install it without this? I was gonna put this on tonight but saw that.

You should be all right if you don't. It just helps seal it up a little better. It sure would not hurt. And it is under $5 a tube. You don't need that much. Just a little bit to go around the whole thing.

I think stock the only area where there is a little RTV is around the ending cam caps and that looks like it's just from the RTV oozing out.

that happened w/ my first VC...my exbf took over (w/out asking) and broke one of the bolts off it. It was a real pain to get a dremel and drill it out. Needless to say, I didnt let him do that part lol. didnt want something else getting messed up.

Broke one off from my first VC that was powdercoated and luckly it wasn't binding in the hole so I gently took some needle nose pliers and slowly turned it out of the hole. Scared the crap out of me when I did that. Just snug down the bolts by hand with a small wrench... you aren't holding the engine together, just keeping oil from seeping out. Snug is all you need

You can try a easyout tho its never easy. Get a good set of high speed drill bits and a easy out most hardware and good auto stores sell them. Drill in the center of the broken bolt. may want to use a lil cutting oil. You will need atleast a quarter of the broken bolt drilled or more if you can. Using the wrench you turn it into the hole you just drilled till you can't anymore then genltel back it out and the bolt should come with it. Be careful as easyout break easy and are a huge pita to drill out. Your other option is to drill and retap the hole.

Hey, I did that too! Freaked me out. I was able to use an easy-out to remove it.

worst is a stripped head bolt hole for the vc. i had one on the new head i got for my 1g, when i bent valves (just got a new complete head) had to run to the autoparts store and recreate the stock bolt but longer, and used a lock nut on the underside of the head lip. worked good.. just annoying.

i still havent put my VC on, or looked at the bolt holes for the coilpack, but lucky for me if i have issues ill just drive to mancini and get a replacement =p

I don't know if this involves my new Mancini valve cover that I put on around 2k ago but....

I replaced my spark plugs today. (first time) I noticed there was oil all over my spark plugs when I took them out... And around the boot. I never replaced my spark plug seals when I got my new valve cover, I think people were saying to do so but I didn't. (They looked perfectly fine) I have no leaks around the valve cover btw too. I know oil doesn't conduct electricity thank god. Well, I started my car up after the spark plug install and its runnin' fine. Any ideas?

Post Ressurection!

oil in the spark plug tubes would be due to faulty or incorrectly installed spark plug seals

Excuse my noob question but the spark plug seals are the things that go over the spark plugs correct? Well mine are perfectly fine... How can you incorrectly install them? You just push them in until you hear a click right? Do you have to turn them at all?
Thanks.

The tube seals are located in the valve cover. they seal the tops of the tubes when the valve cover is pressed back on.

I got this gasket set..Never used it. The blue ones or the black ones are the seals? Will I have to take my Valve cover off to reach these seals? I am guessing the black ones..What are the blue ones for?

Thanks again.

ok, black ones are the plug seals and yes you need to take the cover off seeing that they are installed from the backside. and the blue ones are the bushings for the bolts that hold the valve cover down. i think stockers are black and the new ones are blue
