my car has been showing a check engine light for a whiel now, before it was showing the code that meant the battery was dissconnected in the last 50 starts. so i thought thats what it was. so it stop showing that code. and today i was sitting in the driverseat waiting for my mom and the ignition was in the "ON" position the check engine light started to flash for about 5-10 seconds then turned off. earlier when i was at a stop light, my car was idling rough like it always does. and it turned the steering wheel and all the vibrations and rought idle went away.. :?. does anyone know what could be the problem?

power steering pump? low fluid maybe? I know the pump draws enough power from the motor that a turn of the wheel, even a little, makes the idle a bit tipsy in my car. but thats normal. id bet on the pump, if maybe you are outta fluid or something that could spark a CEL easy. check into it. good luck.

i have enough engine oil. i was thinking it was the power steering pump too, but i dont get what would cause the pump to go out so soon.

how many miles are on your car? if you turn the steering wheel to extreme left or right, and hold it there more than a few seconds, serious damage can be dont to the pump. a lot of people dont know this, but its an easy way to screw up the ps. im not positive why this happens, but ive read it several times, even says it in most cars owners manuals i think. look into it.

Mine did the same thing last night. No codes tho what I thought where codes turn out to be my mileage(lol) Started it to day and she was fine. It may sound dump but I think it may have to do with the oil sending unit. Cause my oil light stayed on last night when I had the key the on postion. An while I have enough oil in the car when I check it right then the oil was really thin looking. Also I notice my car over the past few weeks dips down to the 500RPM mark when it does this her idle is rough almost like a feeling of she's going to stall. Only thing differnt in my car over the past month has been a set of plain champ plugs and Shell V2 gas. Which I'll never put in my car again.

my car has about 27K right now. so if i was to turn the wheel to the left or right too fast, it can damage the pump?

Mine has done that since I got it at 16,000 miles, no problems even at 78,000 miles, it's idle undershoot.
