2000 SE to SRT-4

For awhile now I've been considering taking my 2000 SE and equiping it with the Engine/drivetrain/suspension/exhaust/what ever else off of a SRT-4. Is this even possible, any estimates on cost. this would not include the body of the SRT-4 cause if it is possible I want a sleeper. any info would be appriciated.

Search on here. There are at least 3 ppl on here that have done this. The knowledge is too much for one post.

SRT is a neon so you dont need the whole body... seeing that you have a 00 you WILL however need to cut some holes and re mount the comuter among some other things. on 03+ neons its a direct sway though ;)

talk to diablo0 he did it in his r/t. i plan on doing the swap later on down the line as well. talk about a sleeper! if you can afford it and know what youre doing, its a great idea IMO.

if you can, buy a whole wrecked srt4...from what jason told me, you end up need lots of odds and ends that dont come w/ the engine thatyou have to go source and find if you dont buy a wrecked srt.

thats now brad (refect) did his, just buying the engine and im sure he will be the first to tell you it was alot more trouble that way

All depends on if you're in an area where you can source SRT parts like Brad is able to. He found a lot of the part in Tampa where around me I hardly even see SRT-4s on the road much less in a salvage yard. For me the easiest and cheapest way was to use a donor car instead of having to hunt and search for SRT-4 parts around the internet and getting them shipped or having to buy new from the dealer which costs a pretty penny... that and having to wait days for the shipping and everything. Brad has been working on his for months now where I finished mine in month or more just working after I got off work and taking a week off work to pull the motor out of the R/T and get the SRT motor in, pretty much the majority of the work then doing the odds and ends after I got off work each night and on the weekends.

The engine for $3,500 was not a good deal at all, the same company is trying to sell an srt-4 rear section and rear bumper for $750. Keep looking on ebay, there will be more to pop up very soon, there always are.

I've also seen a couple wrecked srt's on ebay before so look for those as well. Good prices would be around $2,000-$2,500 for the engine/tranny setup or $4,000-$5,000 for a wrecked srt I'm thinking, anyone correct me if I'm wrong.

I plan on buying an srt engine/tranny from the guy in Tampa too like refect did, so that shouldn't be a problem, it's not even 2 hours away : ).

i did it in my 2000. pieced all the parts together like they were all saying above. if you have access to a donor car or can find one then do it. im sure it will make it a lot easier, becasue then you will have little things that you might not get from buying parts seperate. also you will be able to tell how everything was supposed to be and what was connected to what. not much modification was needed though. it was pretty much straight bolt up, plug it all together, and go. only thing i had to do some moding to was the firewall for the clutch cylinder because i had an auto and i had to cut the stuff for the itnercooler. i swaped over the engine/tranny, brakes, and some suspension stuff. i will tell you now about doing the brakes. GET THE SRT STEERING RACK. when you put on srt brakes you need to put the steering knuckles on as well and the regular 2000 steering rack will not work too good with them. it might be possible for it to work with the regular steering rack but you gotta mod it for it to work. imo it is just easier to cut the bullshit and switch out the srt steering rack so that way you dont gotta worry. i learned the hard way. the back brakes go in without anything needing to be switched over though.

there should be a whole discussion forum on motor swaps(srt, mag, whatever), cuz a lot of people are interested in doing em, and im sure more and more 2gn guys are gonna be interested in the future. IMO, if enough information is available, more people will try the swap. some guys on here can really help a lot, and i think random threads about the swap (not to mention repetetive ones) arent going to cut it. anyone else see where im going with this?

I know i wanna do an srt swap sometime in the future, and id love a place to ask all my questions and learn tricks from the guys who have already done it. just a thought..

if someone typed everything about the swap there hands would surely fall off. its alot of information.

Its basicaly a standard motor swap, nothing too fancy. take guts from one car and install in another car. with a few people knowing what they are doing it should only take a few days.

there is a whole motor swap section on neons.org...good idea, but I dont know if there should just be a section for srt swaps...but it is a good idea

not JUST srt swaps, but basically cover all mechanical swap options, like mag and what not. plus, with the new caliber out and who knows what else on the way, more and more options are opening up for us. I really think its a good idea, and a great way to cut down on everyone asking about srt/mag swaps and the like.

I'm gonna be doing this soon. Does anyone know if the 2.4 will bolt to the 2.0l transmission. I have the motor but sold the tranny before I bought another neon and dont wanna buy another one if I dont have to...

pretty sure you have to use the srt tranny. gearing is diff; ratios and whatnot. someone prob knows for sure, but i doubt it.

t350=neon

t850=srt
