I want know how big is the tube that is used on your CAI.

I have an idea for something that if it works and is possible will be pretty neat.

Also, if you can post a pic of how the TB is supported it would be great.

tube is 2.5" in diameter and the TB is not supported by anything but the tubes. the fenderside tube has a mount that connects to the batt tray.

and how big around is the TB portion that you clamp onto.

btw thanks for the response.

On an MPx or LFS TB the i.d. is 60mm on both sides. So o.d. is probably about 62-63mm for the aftermarket TB's. Stock mtx TB is 49mm, stock atx TB is 52 mm.

Is this what you were wanting to know? Also, the 49mm and 52mm measurements are at the narrowest point I believe (?), and the stock tb's have a venturi design, so the widest point (where you would clamp on) is slightly bigger.

so if the stock TB is 49mm the od would be about 52ish mm.

a 2" coupler would work well to clamp on to the TB?

all 2gns have a 52mm tb and they use a 2.5" coupler with clamps.. the 49 mm and 52mm are restricted to 1gn's...

seems like a lot of extra to use a 2.5" coupler on an ~2.17" od TB. or does it fit well.

It works. When I had my AEM cai on with the stock TB, the coupler (2.5") didn't have to pinch itself or crinkle, but smaller would be better. I bet 2" silicone tubing would fit, albeit a bit tight.

racer12306,

Yep -- all tubing is 2.5" -- including the bellows tube, etc. Did you see the BITOG post that Amsoil is making performance air filter for aftermarket intakes? Initially, the smallest diameter they will have is 3". Pablo is going to request 2.5". I made a statement that they missed the Sport Compact crowd by not offering anything smaller than 3" ID. That's a big crowd. We could use a reducer, but that's just something else to buy...

yeah, i saw that post. but my idea will use an air box from an old gm car and a panel style air filter.

i bet no one has a clue what im thinking of now

a ram air setup? kind of like the CAI interfooler setups? lol the inpart of the TB is 2.5 the outlet is 2.25 so it isnt really a big deal it is lose at first but just tigthen the couplers and the coupler is not get distorted or anything

I used a 5.0 mustang airbox from an early 90's mustang on my old daytona and it flowed great! (bone yard $5)
As for the CAI, my DIY intake used a 3" diameter pipe (for honda) and a reducer to go down to the TB. The DIY intake compared to my old AEM CAI seemed to provide a lil bit more power by the seat of the pants...
