Ran my 98 on Friday (Update 6/20/08)

Post by INVUJerry » Sun Jun 08, 2008 12:57 am

Yep, ran the heap, got 6 runs in. I finally took all the extra junk out of my car that I had in before, but I just ran on my steet tires (195/60/14 Falken 312's). I had them aired down to 30 PSI hot (I keep then around 40 for gas mileage). I did both flat shifting, and regular shifting fast shifting. I hate my 1-2 shift is so hard my radio came out of my dash during one of my runs.

Tried shifting around 7K my first run, didn't seem like it did much for me.

Interesting thing about the 4th run. The kid was in a nice Scion TC. He had never raced before though, he started doing his burnout about 10 feet behind the burnout box. Then he blew by the time slip box to get his slip. He saw me with mine, and asked where to get it, and I walked him through the whole thing. Drive around the water box, spin just a little, then don't absolutely dump the clutch to go. His next run was a 15.8 with a 2.4 60'. Then, right before I left, he clicked a 15.3. It felt good to know that even with my stupid high 15 second neon, I helped someone get off a better time.

Saw a WICKED 1st gen neon there. The guy said he used to be on .org years ago, but I didn't ask his username, and forgot his real name. He had a hahn stage 5 setup, and said that on 30 PSI he dynod 500 HP, and on 15 PSi he was around 300 WHP. He was on 15 PSI, and running crappy DR's first, then a set of too short slicks, and was clicking off 12.7's.

Oh yeah, my setup:
2.0 SOHC, AFX Long tube header, 2.5" dynomax exhaust, with camaro style muffler, 3.0 intake tube, Mopar DOHC computer, solid rear bobble strut.

nice man, I like... I also like you tips on running... 4k holds, ease off, not dump... got to try that.

Also, I am surprised a tC ran a 15.3  I beat one with no problem once, on the street of course, but still, I was a good car length in front. Not bad, I wonder if it were stock or no..? Anyway, good times! I got to get out to KCIR if it ever stops raining out here for a day or two

Yeah, when I was running my slicks, a clutch dump just made me snap axles. I didn't want to keep breaking them so I started slipping the clutch. I figured I'd try it on my street tires, and it worked out good too.

Yeah, the Scion was pretty quick, but I don't think he was dead stock. I got beat racing a buddy I work with with his TC and all he had was a CAI.

Yeah, I was pretty happy I got my 6 runs in. I'm going again in 2 weeks (and Seth is going too). Did you ever get that long tube on?

Ran it again tonight, and only got 1 run in. Changed my oil, my air filter to a K&N from a generic POS that came with it, rotated my tires (Falken ZE-312's I think) and took out my rear seat and trunk carpet.

Got into the lanes at 7, and found out Outlaw Pro Street series was running, and a drag radial series, so I waited forever to run. I finally ran around 9. In the meantime I had lowered my air pressure to 34PSI from 41.

It had cooled down pretty good, and I felt somewhat confident.

Rolled up to the line, went around the water box, and I was going against a yellow mustang with a procharger, I had no chance with it.

So, I staged, I launched with a .9 light.

Went, got the slip, and was very surprised.

1/4: 15.391

I was fucking amazed.

A 2.1 60' was what really got me. I'm happy as shit right now. Engine mods are still the same:
3.0 CAI, 3" inlet K&N filter, PS and AC belt pulled off (parts still there), solid rear bobble, AFX header, 2.5" dynomax, dynomax camaro muffler, and mopar DOHC computer.
