Headed to the track June 19th
So I'm going to the track on the the 19th to get some baseline #'s before I install any mods. I will even have the spare tire and full interior. I then want to strip out all the seats and spare tire to see how big of a diff. it will make. Also will be installing my wot box/2step to see if it helps a stock neon any. I will be getting videos for everyone to see. Any suggestions on where to launch from or anything else that might help? What should I use for tire pressure? I planned on shifting at 6500rpm to try to get every ounce of power.lol. My realistic goal- break a 15.9 stock.
Unrealistic goal- break a 15.5 with wot box and weight reduction.
and hopefully not break an axle.

So my best time was a 16.6 with a 2.5 60'. My main problem was not launching correctly. I kept just dropping the clutch around 3-4 and i would get alot of wheel hop. So the last run I upped it to 4krpms and feathered the clutch alittle and dropped 1/2 second. No wheel hop just hooked and went. My average time was 17.0 . It was my first time out with the car so I just need to learn how to drive it better. I know the car has more in it stock. I forgot the my tools and spare tire were in the trunk.lol. The wot box helped by a couple tenths. The temp was 95deg. with 57% humidity with elevation at 950ft. with out adding humidity.
On a side note that day was bad all around. My wot box was setup inverted with the 2step so it came on while at wot about 4000 rpms. First pass was awful 39sec.lol But I figured it out right away. My brothers CSRT locked the clutch up on the last pass. So we had to trailer that home. Fun but disappointing day.

Yeah feathering the clutch alittle off the line helped greatly. Im gonna try to take it higher in the rpms. After taking another look at that dyno graph 5100 look like it might be a good spot to try from next time. Also next time hopefully I have the 2step working. I felt kinda rushed at the line.

I launched from 5000rpm in my SXT with no feathering. I ran 16.11 in a bone stock form.
You need to spin to get the engine up into the power band quickly.

Yeah it is a big change from the last car I had. The cougar made real nice tq around 3000rpms. I tried driving it like that and it was a total fail. Driver mod was needed. Im gonna go back and try again stock until I get down to low 16's then I will be happier.

I went back to the track yesterday and I did better then the first time I went out. My best time was 16.200. I tried dropping the clutch at 4k, 5k, and 6k,. All it did was wheel hop real bad. So I worked my way up to 5500 feathering the clutch just alittle bit and I finally got it to hook n go. I tried higher rpms but 5500 seems to be the sweet spot for now. my 60's were 2.4s. I might just need some better tires. I have some all season nankangs that came on the car. The 3/4 full tank of gas didnt really help either. If I dont finish the turbo kit soon I will take out my back seats and go with 1/4 tank of gas and hope for the 15's.
