nhra

Post by XxWhiteNeonxX » Sat Dec 10, 2011 9:36 pm

How strict is nhra?

I have:

battery in the trunk ( nonvented) no cutoff switch
no oem seatbelt. Only a 5 point harness attatched to my rollbar.
no power steering ( looped line)
my slicks are supposed to be tubed, but im running them tubeless

etc..

How strict are they?

You won't pass tech for the battery cutoff alone

Does your five point meet spec? Does your roll cage? The looped power steering line may not pass track or nhra. Some guys are lenient some not so much

I didn't really look through it, but that should have all the info you need.

It depends on the track. I've been to some tracks that don't even pop the hood (GLD) and Rock Falls requires EVERYBODY to have an approved helmet. They do pop the hood but mainly look for an overflow tank and make sure your battery is secured.

I don't have an 11-second car so I don't know how strict they get on those.

Both are NHRA sanctioned tracks I believe.

Depends on how strict they are as others said. Things I mention below may need more research...

- Transmission scattershield or blanket
- Fire retardent clothing, jacket, gloves, and maybe face/neck under helmet "hoodie"

well nhra is stupid. I really hate them.. lol
The 3 tracks i race at could care less ( steel valley, quaker city, beaverun, etc..) None of them really care if the car is falling apart or not.. I mean hell, my buddy raced his neon without a ps cap.. lmfao.

hopefully their not too strict, id really like to go up there and run some 11's

Well i really want a scatted shield anyways.. Hopefully i can still get one on the .org from somebody. Evilfabrications doesnt make them anymore i dont believe..

I have a shoe helmet, Its older but really good. I dont know if they would let me use that or not..

The rules aren't there just to be a pain in your ass. They are just basic safety rules. Belts are dated for a reason. Even well used belts that aren't taken care of can become unsafe and still not be out of date. Helmets evolve to become safer. Every 10 years or so you need to get a new helmet. That's like $10 a year. If you're too cheap to do that you should find a new hobby.

People spend many thousands of dollars on parts but can't spend $100 on a current-legal helmet? No sympathy should be given to them for not having interest in protecting THEMSELVES.

You don't need anything other than normal STOCK belts and a legal helmet to run 11.49 and slower as long as the rest of the car can pass a simple tech inspection.

If you go faster than 11.49 they might boot you since your cage isn't welded in and nhra spec.

If you have an aftermarket turbo you're supposed to wear a fire suit. They wanted me to wear a fire jacket at the track when I was running nitrous and I was only going 14.1's so I didn't need a helmet.

Your helmet has to be Snell rated. The Snell 2000 is no longer allowed to be used.

At one track I've had the dude open my hood, shake my battery, then let me go race. Same track I got hassled at for the fire jacket. At another track the dude just signed my paper work and let me go. The ticket booth told me I needed a helmet for going 13.5.
