SCCA beginner advice

Post by Forest Green 2k » Sat May 21, 2011 8:37 am

Hello guys and gals, I'm about to start my adventures into what our cars do best; auto-x.

I'm prepping my car for the stock street tire class because I've never done this before. I was told I would have to lose my Iceman and only a drop in filter is allowed to stay in my class. That's okay with me considering the 2g ones aren't that bad.

But what about suspension components? Like say I had motor-mounts and polyurethane bushings?

I don't have an oil catch can yet so besides that and removing my CAI, what would you recommend I do in "prepping" for stock street tire days?

If you are going to run in SCCA sactioned events, you need to familiarize yourself with the classes and rules/limitations of each class. Here is where you want to start reading...

Once you know what class you will run, read up on what is and isn't allowed on your car. Once you know what you can upgrade, you can then look at those areas.

For that, there is the 700 page manual. This link will give you the PDF that you can use. On the table of contents, click on the link to go to the section you want.

All of this info is on the SCCA website.

You will want to start on page 475 to see the production class specs. The general info about racing, flag meanings, track etiquette, etc should be read as well.

Whatever you do, don't strip your whole interior. For some reason it throws you up into a high ass Prepared class.
