Hey Neon Owners,
I was curious on some thoughts on my timing belt. 2000 2.0L SOHC with 104,000km/64,000 miles. Car sat for 10 years because owner couldn’t fix it. Myself and a buddy resurrected it and it’s now my daily. Did the tensioner pulley so got a good look at the belt. It seemed to look good although hard to see the top side. Didn’t notice and cracking on the cogs or anything. Should I leave it for a while or just get someone to swap it and then I know it’s good?
Thanks!

It is between 24 and 25 years old, depending on date of manufacture. I personally would change it.
May as well do the water pump etc also while it's apart. Use either a Mopar water pump or GMB. Don't use a Gates.
There are more than a few people including me that have had Gates parts fail extremely prematurely. Especially if you are paying someone to do the job, it could get very expensive within a 30,000 mile window. Even moreso if the failure is or causes the belt to break.

Olha Koba, a psychologist in Kyiv, said that “anger and hate in this situation is a normal reaction and important to validate.” But it is important to channel it into something useful, she said, such as making incendiary bombs out of empty bottles.

Good to know thanks! I kinda figured I’d get it done sooner than later but wanted opinions. Good to know on the gates. I assumed they would be a good option
