Would this do anything?

This is the place to ask questions about your engine components like cams, valves, pistons… just anything that is generally "engine" specific. This also includes questions about exhaust systems such as exhaust manifolds, piping size, mufflers, ect...

Would this do anything?

Post by neonpla » Thu Oct 19, 2006 1:04 am

if i welded in a straight pipe in place of the resonator in the mid pipe?

this question is for magnum powered cars, considering a sxt/es/se does not have a resonator in its mid pipe.

probably will just make it a bit louder. i doubt it will do much for performance though.

that's what i thought, i was under the car today and i noticed that the resonator had a crush mark so instead of replacing i thought it would be cheaper just to get a straight pipe put in.

yeh you could do that, but like i said you wont gain much. all the resonator does is help muffle out the sound a bit.

You running an SRT setup?
Yanking out the resonator would make your system even louder!

The magnum is jus tlike the SRT, it had two resonators in it, at least mine did.

I've been thinking of having a straight pipe put in place of mine..

stock 02 r/t / acr's came with one resonator

yeah, there is only one resonator on 02 magnum powered cars. I personally LIKE the sound of a removed resonator in our car. My mechanic put in a 2.5 pipe in place of resonator (I didn't know it at the time). It has a really throaty sound to it now, meaner I would say.

it makes it sound like a honda?? my sister and I took our axle-back sections off one day.... my 01 R/T has the resonator in the midpipe, her SXT has none..... mine was semi-raspy and higher tone sounding, but hers was way lower and honda-y. hope that helps! I'd take the resonators if you ask me, but then again my current setup tone is very low but not TOO honda fart-ish.
