Intake Manifold Installation

Post by hound9164 » Wed Feb 07, 2007 11:23 am

i have heard that when installing a differant intake manifold on a 2.0, either from a magnum, or custom, or indy, that the stock bolts are too long, and differant ones are needed.

is their any truth to this? if so, what bolts do i need? part #, or length of new bolts??

thanks again everybody for your input!

It just depends on the thickness of the flange on the new manifold you're installing, and whether it has recessed relief area's for the bolt heads. I would guess that the stock bolts would work with most other intakes. Which intake mani are you actually getting?

I picked up a used Indy intake. i was told by the previous owner that they are about 4 or 5mm too long.

you could take the bolt from your stock manifold and go to a home depot or a lowes, some kind of hardware store. and get a shorter bolt with the same thread pitch, that's what i'd do. Pick up some nice stainless 8)

The plastic manifold has quite a thick flange on it, although when I swapped my magnum over, I can't remember if they were too long or not. I think I stacked a few nuts behind the head temmporarily. I do know I went to the hardware store and got new hardware because the magnum uses more fasteners, and I do know I bought shorter ones.

I couldn't comment for sure either, because my mag intake came with the bolts original to the intake. I didn't even think to compare lengths when I was swapping. Sounds like you need some shorter bolts though. Get some SS ones. Super Sport stainless steel.

Why is everyone so keen on replacing fasteners with stainless all of a sudden. I've seen this on a few forums. Stainless on aluminium corrodes out even worse than just steel on aluminium.
