Front Mount Intake System?

So I was watching Speedtv the other day, (well awhile) ago, and I saw they put a Front Mount Intake System (looks like a intercooler)on a Civic. Well to get to the point, I was wandering if anyone has used this on their car before? I haven't found a specific one for a Neon, but I found for some Hondas/Acuras, mostly probably because of the piping to get to the throttle body. So I was wandering two things, does this provide scenificantly more air (power, if you prefer) and if I just bought a kit for a Civic, think I could modify it easily enough to work on the Neon? All comments are welcome.

Thanks

Here's the link.

I know they are out of stock, but I found some other cheap'os on Ebay that I could try it on.

my buddy has one of these things on his civic...i must say, it is a nifty little contraption, he said his ass felt a noticeable difference going to that front mount cai than his aem..i think he had an aem...wellwhatever he had on there wasnt cheap. by no means does it replace a turbo tho.....

so basically you want to look like this fool,
Image

dont do it.. the added wieght will negate the extra 1-2 hp a cai gives you in a neon.

Thats looks like a REAL intercooler, the ones I'm talking about are probably FAR LIGHTER than a real one, they just look like one, kinda....

seen a few of those on Acura's around town here.. they do sound pretty good.. but honestly, the last thing i would want is people thinking i have turbo kit, when i really just have a CAI. You might as well just get a fender-well intake, that way its hidden, i personally think that thing looks ghetto rigged up in the front air-dam.

if you know what an intercooler looks like than you'll be able to tell that it's not a real intercooler. The filters are basically what you'd be looking at as the intercooler...and they come in some pretty bright colors so i dont think there will be any question as to if it's real or not....my buddies is bright orange.

beside the first glance looking like an intercooler you have to add/remove the "protective" water shield. That alone sounds like too much of a hassel, especially when your on a long trip and experience several different kinds a weathers.

If you do buy and install one, be prepared to be laughed at.

I ended up zooming in on the intercooler to see if it was true, I wonder how well that intercooler works on cooling ambient air temperature on a n/a motor.............

:argue:

:slap:

That says enough....

Those front mount intakes are junk i had two friends of mines that had them and one locked his motor because of the rain hitting it head on and they make a cover you can put over infront of the the intake but that cover just channeled the water directly to the intake and to the motor. just get a CAI its a big waste of money.

i don't th ink most of you guys have any idea what he is talkin about....

this is the style he is talkin about
http://www.streetstyler.com/ArospeedCol ... ntakes.htm

all it is, is a cai with a filter that is long and wide(looks like an intercooler basically) i had a friend who had one on his b18 gsr integra....i can't honestly say that he made a huge difference, but i don't like it b/c it's exposed to the elements...most come with like a plexi glass cover in front of it to block water/ect but that almost defeats the whole purpose of getting cold air rushed right in

also all the flaming is not necessary..... :?

yeah thats the glass i was talking about it doesnt seal too well allowing water to sit at the bottom of the intake. very bad design.

there sell point is that it also creates a ram air system.

Kinda like what the Srt guys do by cutting the extra whole in their hood, forces air ontop of the filter right?

not sure if it's worth the goofy inter cooler look though, rather have a liquid intercooler anyways.. but whatever.

^^^^ that dude looks like he's turboing his DD and had to put a filter on the intake part of the FMIC cause he wasn't done yet..

or did the dude do it to make it look like he had a turbo and nothign else? i wouldn't think anyone would do that really.. nothing to laugh about...

this might be crazy.. but i was thinking of a way to utilize this type of filter, and maybe get that ram air ability without making it look like a FMIC

I have an srt hood, over a 2.0L engine, and i was wondering if i built a heat shield to cover the coil back and keep the exhaust heat from gettign to wear the air bumps off from the hoood scoop, if i could fit that type of filter almost right over my egine to suck up that good air comming from the scoop.'

One thing would be, i would have to relocate the battery to the back, which i want to do anyways, and the second is i'd have to do some pipe work.

but my biggest question is, would there be enough space between the 2.0l engine, which is mounted as high as the srt-4 engine, and the top of the hood for this thing to fit, and allow me to mount this thing so it give me atleast and inch to play with to keep this thing from sitting on the engine..

that would be an awsome use for this filter,

does anyone have the measurment, or know were i can find the measurment for this thing, cause i'm thinking this would be a fun little project.

cant find the measurment for this thing anywhere...

Image

looks small enough to work with, no problem... even if i did have to work the hood a little bit and make some bracket to come off the firewall to hold this thing up or whatever.

plus, the hood design would keep the elements off the filter... so..
yes or no?

Where's BRR when you need him. I think he has pix of this. You can cut the circle on the bottom right of the hood and also cut a hole in the top of your airbox. You seal it with weather-stripping and fill in the holes at the back of the hood by the windshield with expanding foam, and BAM! somewhat ram air intake.

I like the idea of adding an front intake thingy. It will look pretty nifty if/once Dan does it. He was showing me how he'd do it and it sounds good! i guess it's called "ram air." his car will be as cool as mine if he gets ram air! ram air is pretty sweet
