Gasket issues

Post by hound9164 » Wed Feb 14, 2007 5:01 pm

i am planning the intake manifold swap from stock to my indy intake. in anticipation, i ordered a new intake manifold gasket, but i got 4 round felpro gaskets that look like cock-rings lol.

i went back to see what was up with the part, cause these dont look like any intake manifold gasket i have ever seen, and i really doubt they will work for the swap.

does anybody know if this really is the right part? on the link, it is the pic at the very bottom....

If you bought it for a std soch, they use rubber inserts that go in the intake manifold. I'm assuming the indy doesn't use this in which case you'll need a flat paper gasket. Either order one for a magnum engine, or make your own.

now for the million dollar question: how would i go about making one? do the sell like a peice of gasket material that i could use to make my own?

i took a look at the magnum gasket, and it has 3 too few holes and looks far too small. it looks like custom is the only way to go....

Yeah, you can buy generic gasket material at most auto parts stores. Then just trace and cut!

you can also use a hammer to tap around the edges to give you are really clean finish.

place the gasket material up to the part and tap around. you will crease the gasket and eventually it will cut itself. wouldnt want to hit too hard as the stuff is aluminum.

gasket is aluminum? ok. i am not sure a metal casket is such a great option, but tomarrow i am gonna see what the auto parts [place has to offer.

anybody else have any suggestions? i would call indy directly, but they have a $40 minimum on parts, and i really dont need 3 or more gaskets to fill out the minimum price lol.
