OK Shake N' Bake, easy boy. As for the specs on the motor, I'm not 100% on the technical specs. But the bottom end is a DOHC, bored .020 over. Rebuilt with new bearings and rings. Forged rods and pistons. The pistons where bought for the DOHC with 11.1 compression with the DOHC Head. We are using the SOHC cyclinder head. According to Shake N' Bake, the SOHC head is mildly ported. Using the crane #12 cam. As for the cylinder specs such as actual size, stock 98 block plus .020. Stock stroke and such. If anyone knows the actual cc's of the SOHC head, from using a head pour, I could tell Shake N' Bake his actual compression ratio. This engine was ran previously in a drag neon, with the ONLY eception being a slightly larger cam. But it did run off of pump gas. If this helps out both sides, so be it!!!

Go to Wiseco or JE or whoever makes your pistons and download their catalouge. It has the combustion chamber cc's in their catalouge. They already did the work for you. Then grab the dome cc's, add .020in to your stock bore diameter and calculate it out with the formula above.

ping

Post by tanetal » Thu Mar 01, 2007 3:48 am

ping ping ping

thats what your likely gonna hear running that thing on a stock computer or 93 octane

at that compression i wouldnt even run a crane 14 id run a crane 005 with the cam caps

i have a feeling its gonna run ridiculous cylinder pressures n way to much heat in the cylinder

even guys runnin 10.5:1 compression are running the 14 because the 12 is too small, yes youll have all your power in your stock rev range but you wont make as much peak hp and youll likely see compression in the cylinders be unmanageable, the valves openning longer bleeds off a little of that pressure and keeps the charge cool.

I have a friend i watched detonate multiple sohc's trying to do the 12:1 thing, finally he went with a bigger bore lower cr, and he was running the crane 14 and comp 400

it sounds like a great motor but id run it on a megasquirt, then you can tune for fuel and spark to try to tune out any detonation that may occur

just get regular dohc pistons and a 14 you will hit around 150 at the wheels.

IT LIVES!!! I was so nervous, and it doesn't ping at all. It sounds so wicked. I'll post a video in the progress log tomorrow.

If it's going to ping, it's not normally going to do it on first startup. It's going to be when it's really warm and under heavy load, that's when you'll have to keep an eye on it.

check your mileage and let us know how long it holds together. this has to be the weirdest neon combo i've heard of yet.

Well guys, we have 400 miles on the motor now and runs great!!! When we get to 500 or a lil more miles we are going to drop the oil pan and recheck the torque on the rod bolts. Still running on 93 octane.
